Ordering a new keyboard wrist pad

hm you must be a very good and fast swimmer. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hehe, interesting proportions. My “wingspan” is about 203 cm, and I’m 198 cm tall… so not nearly as interesting. I don’t really see how having long arms makes a normal keyboard uncomfortable though? Maybe I’ve just never tried one that’s split down the center.

Note the increased height. Some steelseries keyboards have a removable hard sloped wrist rest – I dont know how comfortable it is in practice or if I like the amount of room it uses on the desk.

Woah 129 dollar for a keyboard?
I read that article in the first link and they seem to have a hard time justifying the price…

Thats the beauty of getting paid to write code. I do not have to justify my purchases, I type all day, the DAS keyboard is the best tool for the job. They could charge whatever they want for it. The fact that I bought 3 of them, 2 for work and 1 for home, just indicates that the administration where I work does not do a very good job of administrating.

If you compare it to some of the expensive gaming mice, it is really not that overpriced, but yes, it is a niche-market. That being said, I would never get the silent version, the point with the DAS is that is resembles old-school heavy, noisy keyboards. If you never used one, then today’s keyboards probably do not bother you much.

I did and I still use an “oldschool”-ish one. It is not as heavy as the old ones with the metal-plates in them but it’s close.
And it even came for free. A roommate who moved gave it to me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, for me it means I am forced to rise my shoulders leading to a sore neck area that as time goes leads to a gruesome headache. In other words, pretty uncomfy as I can’t relax while gaming (or typing).

Hmm, maybe if I took one in each hand :stuck_out_tongue:

It looks pretty thin. Availability is low.

i had that keyboard before… before it freaking died on me a year after, TWO times repeating, so i switched to Logitech’s wave

Damn its good to see I am not the only cheep bugger out there who jury rigs medical gear.
I hope your arms hold together for the foreseeable future stress injuries like this are just no fun.

My current is my second. The first still works but looks very used and some of the letters on the keys are almost invisible ( wsad  ). I believe I bought the first at least 3 years ago, the current one I bought a few months ago.

I’ve only seen Logitech’s wave on pictures and as I knew the MS one I bought that again. How is the Logitech one in use compared to the MS one?

When I was 20, I started writing like crazy, and my hands were killing me. So, I spent a month and learned to type in Dvorak. I practiced for about 20-30 minutes a day. It makes a HUGE difference, and was pretty easy to learn. Next, getting a truly ergonomic keyboard helps as well.

The sooner you make the switch, the better. ^^

What do you mean, learning to write in Dvorak?
I know Dvorak as a composer but not as some kind of typing-style? oO

Dvorak Simplified Keyboard

I considered trying to switch to Dvorak when I got my blank DasKeyboard since it didn’t have the lettering anymore. After remembering that I was just getting decent with typing on a normal qwerty keyboard, I decided against it. … Might have to take another stab at it sometime though? I wonder if it’s better or worse for coding? There is also a programmer Dvorak layout, hmm…

Hey Munderbunny, do you find that you can still use a qwerty layout okay when you have to, or does learning Dvorak mess with that too much?

So medierra, how does your new wristpad look like?

If you haven’t bought one yet, try something like this:

I have one of similar design, and I think I’ve had it for as long as i can remember (7-8years??). Unfortunately, the brand is not written on the ones I own, but they look exactly like the ones in that picture. They are even washable! (I’ve washed them many times) I also have a small oval one for my mouse.

only the cloth material on top is showing signs of any damage (rippling in the material, that is actually from my elbow leaning on it)

I’ve no idea what that site is, but you could try a similar product.

I had a lot of discomfort several years ago, and up until a couple years ago had been using a Kenesis chair mounted model.

It was quite the conversation piece.

Looking good. Do you recommend it?
