Has the performance of the game become worse for anyone else other than me in the playtest build?
I know the game is CPU bound, but ever since I switched to 1.3.0., the performance became noticeably worse, especially when dealing with larger groups of enemies. I’m currently in Malmouth and the dips are happening here and there, but Shattered realm in 10+ shards with a lot of mobs on the screen dips, what seems like, into 30s/40s.
I know about the custom launch fields in Steam and CPU affinity settings, but I’ve never tried them before since they were not needed. I don’t think it’s a viable solution either since the game was working way better before the playtest version.
I have also noticed stutters when 5/6+ items are dropped on the ground with detailed tooltips on - when the character walks to pick up the item the game stutters sometimes, which I’ve never seen happening before.
All my drivers are up to date and Grim Dawn is one of 3 games I have installed on my SSD.
have you tried switching back to 1.2.1.6 to see if it’s purely v1.3 itself? (keep in mind saves from v1.3 is not backwards compatible)
*not suggesting it because doubt, but as simple/“insta” verification
another user made a similar post, but beyond you two i don’t recall such mention. For (potato) myself, i have a GoG 1.2 version installed and the v1.3 ptr on my steam, when i’m switching back and forth between the two i’m not noticing any significant changes as such (potato life i guess )
besides that’s verify game files, check settings changes if any of those alleviates on v1.3, or if stuff like steam overlay disabled impacts it?
Another thing that’s frequently been a thing “recently” i feel is driver updates, particular Nvidia having more hit and misses lately, so sometimes people are better off reverting to a previous and/or waiting for something more human-inspected…
*unrelated but just had a convo with a guy couple days ago where windows update kept changing his AMD driver and making it incompatible to update from new web dl @_@ , no idea if windows updater is messing with Nvidia release versions behind the scene vs the Nvidia app tries to update
It has become noticeably stuttery recently—specifically, starting a few days or weeks ago; this wasn’t an issue back in March or April.
The screen freezes momentarily when enemies spawn or when a group enters the rendering range. I haven’t specifically checked whether this also occurs in the current version, 1.2.1.6.
I’m not using any mods or third-party tools.
I haven’t monitored the FPS or collected any performance data; this is just based on what I’m experiencing.
I have 5800 hours in-game, I know how it behaved earlier. The only mod I have installed at the moment is the Rainbow mod, nothing that should cause any issues. As roughly 60-70% of my total playtime included both the Rainbow mod and the Steam overlay, I don’t think the issues are related to that. I have also been running the game with custom command /d3d11 /maxthreads and it never caused any issues as well.
I have reinstalled Nvidia drivers from scratch and will monitor the situation. As for the dxdiag, It’s included in the comment.
From the top of my head it looks like it’s a CPU issue, since it’s related to the mob density and the amount of spells going on at any given time. If it is an engine limitation then fine, but I’m 99% sure the issues weren’t as noticeable in the previous version. It’s not unplayable, just a bit annoying.
I wanted to chime in because I do very much care about the game’s performance, and I’ve also been noticing stutters while playing a slightly older version, within the ballpark of two years.
I’ve not updated since 1.2.1.0, and I was convinced my issues come from my lackluster, old SATA SSD drive. So I wanted to ask whether you happen to also be using an older drive, or if you are perhaps on an NVMe, and if not whether you could test on one.
I can as well, but I was planning to do that once Fangs is live.
only have a a sata6? SSD and m2 NVME, and i get similar load issues on both, and on 1.2 and 1.3 (delayed homestead spawn and the famous door/gate doesnt’ open instant)
Changing from ssd to nvme didn’t seem to make a difference on that part
I started having similar issues but on an rtx 2070. After trying everything I could, I noticed that I get bad stutters using windows 11. When I tried to play the game using the same system but on windows 10, the game ran flawlessly on both beta and standard versions. It could be an issue with an update from windows 11. Considering the game engine is old and might not be as stable on newer operating systems.
I’ve had this happen randomly. Played it fine for years, then suddenly it started being annoying, then a few months later it was fine again.
Might be video driver updates that play a role.
