Pet taunts

Does anyone happen to know how these mechanics work?

For example with Briarthorn Groundslam, if I put more points in it does it make the taunt effect stronger?
Is the Ishtak devotion taunt effect stronger than Groundslam?

Also is there a difference between ‘Generate additional threat’ in Groundslam and ‘Taunt’ in Ishtak or is it just different wording for the same thing?

Shouldn’t that be the Maya signal?

I think you mean birb signal there :stuck_out_tongue:

As far as my understanding on aggro goes (based on what I’ve read from others), Taunt skills like Ground Slam or War Cry are just one big “explosion” or chunk of threat, Generate Additional Threat skills like Rotting Fumes are generally smaller.

Threat is built up for every enemy in the area and nearby enemies. This is why skills that cover a wide area/several enemies or tick multiple times per second (or both like Curse of Frailty/Blackwater Cocktail) build Threat so quickly even though there is no indication that they will.

I think its also the only form of CC that works on gods, celestials, etc.

I remember getting attacked by moose and the likes and the thing turning around to attack pets.

But @Maya can correct me if I’m wrong

So would CoF keep overriding any taunts and pulling aggro anyway if cast on a whole lot of mobs?
Do Nemesis and Bosses have some kind of resistance to it? They seem to often ignore the pets.

It’s difficult to gauge how effective it is. I tried some new devotions without Ishtak and it ‘feels’ like the enemies go for me more often. I haven’t tried putting more points into Groundslam yet (is at 5/12 atm).

Threat is a scaling value from 0 to 100.

Generates Threat adds a threat value less than 100, whereas Taunt adds 100. So with taunt, the target would consider the pet its #1 target, for at least a brief time.

This will vary with enemies, some, particularly bosses, do have some Taunt resistance.

I can confirm Zantai is correct.

Thanks for the info.

Ah, I always wondered just how taunt is an improvement on generate threat.

For example Briarhorn Ground Slam changes at lvl 17 to Taunt. But some say this doesn’t seem to do that much more. So I am guessing the Ground Slam threat is pretty high on the 0-100 by the time this happens, anyways?

Adding to the question, I wonder if different pets generate different amount of threat with their threat generation skills or if they are all equal.

And how multiple sources of threat interact with each other…

Heya Zantai. Do items that add ‘generate additional threat’ stack? For example, the Beastcaller’s medal (+30 threat) and the Conduit of Wild Whispers (+70 threat), would that add up to the full 100 taunt value?
