Petrify, Stun & Skill Disruption

Hello,

My main question is about a clarification on petrify. After playing around 300 hours my first and only class level 85 Warlock (50 Arcanist/15 Occultist) build with nice gears now, I still do not understand petrification and to my understanding, petrification does not exist in the game except its useless resist stats in the character sheet. Is there a single monster in Grim Dawn that petrifies but not stuns at all?

Let’s take the following three nemesis Valdaran, Fabius and Iron Madien all of which stun me (I’m not sure about Fabius). Iron Madien is the hardest nemesis among them for me, which I can take now down with my current gear and skills. I’ve conversion and I’ve Stormtitan Treads on my feet for the %Stun Reistance. Now, does that boot protect against Valdaran’s or Iron Madien’s stun attacks? I farm Valdaran all the time for the ease of time and the +3 Aether Ray Shoulders he drops. I’m curious if someone will answer “No, Valdaran does not stun but petrify. Your boots gives you no protection.”

Second question about Skill Disruption: I’ve tried to test it with Eternal Band Ring in practice but among a number of skills with myriad random rolls, I cannot really detect it unless someone gives me a specific advice about a monster that does skill disruption attacks. I’m not sure how this skill disruption works either. In other words, if my character is not stunned (or petrified whatever), then my skills won’t be disrupted and I’m free to move (if not trapped) or cast my Aether Ray, Devastation or other skills. My skills get disrupted only when I’m stun. Is there really a difference between skill disruption or stun or petrify which leave me unable to attack or run away?

P.S.: I would like to use “Albrecht’s Duality” ring instead of “Empowered Eternal Band”. I got level 26 Aether Ray and Devastation already and my other ring is “Band of the Eternal Haunt”. I’m not using Albrecht’s Duality for its chaos conversion but mainly for its nice bonuses together with %5 chance to reduce skill cooldowns which is a total overkill on top of Time Dilation and Aldanar’s Vanity reducing the cooldowns of my defensive skills Mirror, Blood of Dreeg, Giant’s Blood and Turtle Shell. You can suggest me to switch Albrecht ring with the Eternal band (given the overkill of cooldowns) but I also like the offensive ability bonus on the Albrecht ring.

Thanks for reading my questions.

Afaik, only the rock golem enemies can petrify you with the boulder they hurl at you, along with a few unique items that humanoid enemies can sometimes spawn with and use against you.

Skill disruption is another type of cc that stops you from being able to do anything other than regular weapon attack, move and use consumables. It’s different from stun that leaves you unable to move and use regular attack on top. Poison based heroes often use it, along with a few heroes from the bandit faction.

Halion the Rat in Hannefy mine does skill disruption.

Thx for the answers but can I ask another question?

I’ve found “Footpads of Grey Magi” which gives +2 to Iskandra’s Elemental Exchange and Vulnerability both of which my Warlock uses. However, I cannot think of any use of its 100% entrapment resist. Is there any use of this pair of boots instead of Stormtitan Treads which gives health and stun resist? It seems that petrification and entrapment are badly implemented in the game and any resistance for them is just useless. Even though that I cannot benefit from +2 skill abilities of Stormtitan, it still seems a better choice over Grey Magi.

Trap resist is decentish against Benn’Jharr and the Skeletal Monstrosities. Rest of the time, not so much.

Stun resist is pretty much recommended against Valdaran and Iron Maiden, specially Maiden. They love to stun and in Maiden case, getting stunned can be fatal.

I honestly don’t know what petrify is. I think i never got hit by something that uses this stats aliment.

I’m not fond of Magi boots either, but entrapment is sometimes a deal in crucible when you use a character that needs to kite heavily. Obsidian Ravagers and some undead golems use it, the ch’thonian nemesis too.

Golemborn and Stormtitan boots are my go-to for boots on almost every character, or you can try to get the best of both with Stonehide heavy boots of Kings but gl on that…
