Phoenix fire devotion skill needs a buff?

Hi, what do you think about this devotion skill? Seems to me that compared to other procs (see flame torrent for example, that even is from a lower tier constellation) the damage is very low and the damage absorption is pretty useless, unless your character already has a lt of armor (which of course with casters is always difficult).

It seemed to me a logical choice for a aetherfire caster but until now im pretty much disappointed.

It stack with others source of dmg absorbtion, such as blast shield, overguard, inquisitor seal. DMG is okay for burning builds or fire to aether conversion builds.

Tried with a commando in addiction to Blast shield and overguard (doesn’t change a bit), tried with a aetherfire sorcerer… IMHO still sucks, considering the point investment and that is supposed to be tier 2.

This devotion skill needs some buff, maybe some little hp regen in addiction to the (poor) damage and the absorption could make it useful.

The absorption is fine but because it has limited uptime, is triggered by a critical hit and has a long-ish cooldown it feels a lot worse than inquisitor seal which has none of those drawbacks.

The damage is, to me at least, unremarkable and is just there to trigger other procs.

I agree with this
When used in conjunction with other damage absorb skills it feels fine but if I had to change anything I’d change trigger to On-Hit

Bumping this.

I’ve been using this on a melee burn dot pyro for quite some time now.

  1. Generally it requires some compromise on devotion building such as not going for viper(RR)/Fiend(Torrent proc) for a bit more %burn and an interesting proc with a little bit of flat reduction.

  2. As pointed out: flat damage reduction, while 1/3 that of a maxed Inquistor seal, is mobile. Damage is ok, with more reach and less damage than Torrent- and has no %WD (which is handy for extra dmg and a bit of leech).

Phoenix also has a bit of %aether and damage, but I think this doesn’t distract from the case being made in this thread.

TLDR:
I’d suggest keeping “on crit”, but removing the CD. It would increase up-time and make the devotion path and restrictive choices more attractive.

(The flat reduction is mostly unattractive for the large majority as most are going to go straight to Inquisitor for the OP seal flat reduction, as it currently stands. It could be made to not stack with inquis, if this is the concern …or probably Inquis seal should just be toned down a bit)

They should show some love to (most likely) the only tank lover on the forum (me) and increase the damage absorption a bit.

Or even better, make it a buff like any other “x damage absorption” effect and make it deal (maybe lower) damage until the buff is up. This way we could have a shield that absorbs anything and deal damage till the value is greater than 0.

I doubt Crate would like this idea, but who knows.
