Physical durability for mages

I’m playing Arcanist + Inquisitor (currently leve 84) for maximum elemental capacities. I’m currently playing in Act 3 Ultimate but I’m starting to struggle a lot with physical damage.

All my core resistances are 60% to 80% and I’m rarely taking damage from magical sources but once I face enemies that charge me and strike me with physical damage I get 1-shot, every time again, and again, and again.

Obviously Im using mirror to prevent some 1shots but after it ends I still get 1shot by another charging enemy. I tried everything to prevent this, trying to CC and kiting a lot doesn’t work against hero enemies so they still 1shot me if my mirror is down.

Anyone have any tips on how to better survive physical damage with full mage classes?

Post yer build:)

Use this.

Any idea where I find my save file?

try C:\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main

Nothing happens when I importort player.gdc

If you’re playing on Steam, you want to try here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\folder of numbers\219990\remote\save\main

You want to import the .gdc file.

On Steam indeed  excellent, managed it.

Try upping your armor absorb with 2x scaled hide

Way too low health. Get Word of Renewal and pump points into Vigor.

I tried stacking vigor to max, but I still get 1-shot by physical.

Get some more Armour Absorption as Fluff said. You’re getting shredded by extremely low armour, no absorption (so it is less effective), no physical resistance and Maiven’s being your only method of mitigating damage via absorption.

Ideally, you want around 100 health per level, so for a level 84 character, you want around 8 400 health. I’d recommend putting points into Word of Renewal/Vigor as Norzan mentioned for more health, start putting more points into Physique whenever you can and look at components that increase health such as Leathery Hide or Mutated Scales.

At your level, I would also recommend looking at augments as well. They are available from all factions at Honoured and Revered and will help a lot with regards to increasing resistances or other useful stats.

These 45 points in spirit don’t help at all.

Just get 100% armor absorption and you’ll be fine. Remove spirit points and add to physique.

Oh my… I didn’t even realise it was possible to combine augments with other components… this will probably change a lot, thanks a bunch for this info!

Also reading the part on Crates own game guide helps to understand concepts like OA vs DA.
Since your DA is low you get crit a lot resultin manburger.
If I remember right, the average OA in Act 3 Ultimate even from trash is over 2000

The chance for me to get critically hit from a boss enemy 8 levels above me is 1,5%

Thanks a lot for the tips everyone! By upgrading vigor to 14, placing resistance augments on all my equipment so I could replace components with armor components really did the trick!

Your build have too many offensive skills, you dont need panetti, devestation, trozen and rune.
If you go panetti keep only devestation, if you go throzren keep the rune and devestation with it.

With the rest of the points add inquisitor seel, word of renewal and max maiven sphere

I’m speccing panetti because of the +10 skill points in the base effect and a couple of +skill in its upgrades. Same with trozen.
By augmenting all my gear all my resistances are now topped at 80% and I don’t die anymore from physical.
To top that, with this build I 1-shot all enemies 3-5 levels above me on Nightmare so idk build itself seems to be working just great

I’ve played Inquisitor’s Seal up to level 60, until I realized its quite bad because you have to stay inside of it. Now I just kite enemies while having them frozen 24/7 from Rune of Hagarrad and Trozen. With my off-hand equipped its freeze duration is equal to its cooldown.
