Physical Resist

So ive noticed Phys Res doesn’t have it’s own icon on the stat page but it does however have it listed on i think the second tab but anyway. Its listed with the other Resistances… Stun ect

Does Phys Res in this game work like D2 (MedianXL)? Where as its a damage reduction to ALL incoming damage? Meaning we want 80% of this as well Endgame?

Physical resist works the same as any other resist - it reduces the appropriate damage by a percentage.

Physical damage is also reduced by armor

So it only covers Physical Damage only? (And Trauma of course) Sweet that’s all i needed to know.

Eye of Reckoning with Soulfire is so much fun. I hope it continues to hold up going into endgame. Sucks im so limited on procs i can use with it but it still doing pretty well for leveling. Hopefully i can finish the next difficulty by tonight and start ultimate. Starting out with nothing but what i find on the ground sure as a lot smoother than it used to be.

Yes it says physical resistance so it is resistance against physical damage and internal trauma

NOTE NOTE there are two other damage types that fall under the physical category (get dmg bonus from cunning): Bleeding and Pierce. These damage types have their own resistances.

Also in the Bastion of Chaos im gonna assume the door after the boss that takes a skeleton key is the other Endless dungeon like Steps of Torment?

It is not endless but it is like Steps of Torment.

So this thread is now “my random noob questions or”? :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s endless if you want to farm those rings

I was sooo happy when I got my second alkamos ring! And now they have added set pieces that only drops from the specific Rouge-like chests

But but but in my first SoT run in FG, I dropped the Vanquisher chest armor (which I think is specific to SoT)

Well after hitting 100 and farming the past few days i can say with confidence now…

Phys Res absolutely works just like in D2 MedianXL…
If you dont stack as much as possible (In the case of D2 its 50% Capped) then you are gonna have a rough ass time. Guess i worded my question wrong. Or most of you who answered did so having never played D2 MedianXL… Im thinking the former rather than latter.

Even with 30%+ Phys Res right now i still take nearly double of any other damage type in the game. Jumping that to 50-60% is a HUGE noticeable Difference in damage taken.
It covers just Physical Damage Yes but, Physical also makes up the vast majority of the damage you take in “Most” of the game.
Making it feel like a straight damage reduction. Just like in D2…

A Required Part of Any Build imo at least. Unless of course you just want the game to be harder for no real reason… Along side Armour and DA this is one of the layers you make Good Endgame Defenses with im finding.

Which is the way i guess i should have worded it instead so that’s my fault sorry. At least i figured it out for future builds. Should have been a little more specific but i remember when i posted this… it was the first night i started the build and i was just excited and in a hurry to get leveling to Endgame and start putting this thing together. And now looking back at the post i wasn’t super clear in what i was trying to specifically ask.

I actually rather take armor. Armor is flat physical damage reduction, so if you have 2500 armor, your enemies hit 2500 less physical damage (if you have 100% armor absorption).

Indeed. Both worth quite well. Armour Absorb at 100% is important as well. Thats where im at right now trying to break the 3K Mark in Armour. That along with as close to 50% or over as i can reasonably get in Physical Resistance should make for a fairly tanky build for the most part. Obviously we still require layers so things like Leech, Regen, Proc, Resists, ect all work together to make solid defenses.

Im finding Armour and Phys Res is even more important since going DW and dropping my Shield. You really dont appreciate just how much Block actually does for you defense wise till you no longer have it. Even just 50-60% Block is noticeable when giving it up. Im also finding for whatever reason on my build i seem to need more Max Fire Res as well. This tends to the be the next biggest damage i take overall farming.

Honestly, if you manage to get over 4k armor, with perma buffs only, you’ll effectively remove at least 90% of the game’s physical damage. I’ve made a tank a while ago where he has constant 4.3k armor, jumping up to 7.7k and trash monsters don’t hurt me even when I am only at the 4.3k. I also have a tank which has literally under 20% physical resist and about 4.4k armor and I see no difference between those two characters (the first one I listed has about 40% physical resist too). So, if you manage to get to 4k armor, don’t bother about physical resist so much.

But on flip side if you’re not Soldier or OK,or at least using Myth Justice set,it’s hard to reach high levels of armor. Then physical resistance yields more rewards. If you have under 2k armor adding 100 or reaching 100% absorb rating is nothing, increasing res from 10 to 25% for example makes big difference.

This is the point where damage reduction is very strong. For example, if you have 25% reduction, you’ll remove 25% of the physical right off the top. Then armor is only dealing with 75% and so on.

But usually DR requires an active approach (with the exception of Aura of cheese). Armor is passive.

This is wrong: http://grimdawn.com/guide/gameplay/combat.php#q17

Funny that the game guide only mentions “% Reduced Damage from Monster Types” and not “% Reduced Damage” in general :stuck_out_tongue:

I dindu nuffin.

I think the guide used to include it and has possibly been rewritten? So maybe it has been consolidated. It used to be right behind shield.

(iirc it used to be %reduction to monster type, shield, %reduction general, armor…)
