Please help with my build

Hello everyone

I’m new to this game, and playing on my very first character - a blademaster! In the beginning I had no idea what I was doing, and so I upped a lot of stupid things maybe, but I think I managed to salvage the damage done pretty well.

Now I’m in the middle of ultimate, and I’m being 1 or 2 shot by any given boss with a star over his head. This means I can beat 1 boss at a time, but if 2 or more are together, I have close to no chance at all.

I’m not max lvl yet, and my items aren’t the very best in the game - but is that really necessary?

I’ve tried to follow a guide, but it is very hard when you don’t own 9/10 of the items, and have no idea how to get them.

I’ve been inspired by these two guides:

grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53141
&
grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52940

And here is the build I’m running right now.

grimtools.com/calc/nZo9rE2A

I couldn’t get the calculator to show the exact stats, but it is very close to this.

So what have I done wrong? I really have no better items atm - how can I get these?

Any help is very much appreciated!

Greetings
Tasty

I can’t speak to a cold damage melee build too specifically as I have never made one but first impressions I have are that your resists are really quite good for self-found first character, kudos on that! Your HP is a little low, but probably a result of spreading your attribute points instead of all physique.

I would recommend getting Military conditioning to 11/10 (easy way to boost HP) and super maxing Menhirs Bulwark 15/12 ASAP. I bet you will notice an uptick in tankiness immediately. (Points can be taken out of Night’s Chill and brought down to 10/10 as you only lose 2%rr,)
I would also try to up Menhirs Will to 4 or 6. This is pretty optional, but will help save your butt.

Devotion wise, spend 3 devotion points in Behemoth for the Proc and HP.

Those are some pretty quick and easy changes that should add a solid defensive boost to your character.

Edit: Also put 1 point into phantasmal armor and anatomy of murder. With + skills these give you a decent boost to armor, pierce resist and cunning.

I am not sure what the 2 roiling bloods give you, (OA?) I would replace those with corpse dust because I love HP

I would put points into the War Cry ability in Soldier and the Behemoth constellation around the bottom left of the star map.

Oh man you put waaaaaay too many points into cunning and spirit. 39 and 9 respectively, really? That’s going to make your ultimate run really, really painful. The only way to fix that is a 3rd party program though, sadly.

Also, how are you getting 1-shot by heroes (the guys with stars on their heads) with those resists, that DA, and a shield? Are you turning your auras on? Even then, it shouldn’t be that bad. What part of the game are you at and how are you specifically dealing with threats?

I feel like something is missing here.

With those resistances and DA you should not be squishy at all, so I don’t really know what is going on.

You can try to put another corpse dust onto your ring to bring up vitality resistances and max out Menhir’s Bulwark soon for more tankiness.

Other than that it looks pretty solid despite the spread of stat points

To get your build to show exact stats you can download your character from the game directly into grimtools through the character file.

Thank you for all the help guys <3

Yea  I didn’t have a big idea about what I was doing in the beginning

I have uploaded two gameplay videos to better show my gameplay.
The first video shows a shrine I’ve been trying to get, but have been previously unable to. The fight went surprisingly well.

In the second video I have shown you what normally happen when I run into enemy heroes.

  2. youtu.be/b-o8sxGCpGA

Ok I see.

Those big bald dudes deal high physical damage, which you don’t have resistance for. So there is a couple of things you can do without changing your gears:

  • Add more points to Menhir’s Bulwark, it increases absorption which will reduce all damage you take in
  • Pop Overguard everytime you run into them. You took around 3-4k damage per hit there, and Overguard alone will block 2k

Also you can press Y for another bar of skills and place all the aura there, no need to go through all that replace and buff

The Y hotkey is amazing! thx man <3

Are you using Shadow Strike at all? On the video it seems like you are using only the default weapon attack

I’m not an expert and I may very well be wrong but if you have points left over to put into skills you might consider putting one point into each of the skills on the bottom row of the night blade tree. I also think that if you aren’t running a retaliation or health regen based build you could drop bulwark for rage which will give your a massive boost to all those points you put into cunning by increasing your offensive ability. If you get rage to 12 and put one point into anatomy of murder, you offensive ability will jump up by about 300 points. I didn’t see you use blade barrier once, do you find it that useful in this build? Menhir’s will is a life saving skill but not with only 2 points in it. You also aren’t really maximising the potential of ring of steel. Could consider pulling the points out of ring and putting them into squad tactics to increase your attack speed and overall damage. You could also consider taking some points out of nidalla’s to repurpose elsewhere since you aren’t really maximising the potential of the poison damage.

These are just suggestions you can play around with but as I said I am not nearly as experienced as some of these guys so take what I said with a pinch of salt and don’t hesitate to experiment to get a better understanding of the build.

Why aren’t you using HP pots or, more importantly, Pneumatic Burst? No Blade Barrier either. Were you just trying to die on purpose to make this vidya?
