Please make a fire set for Rune of Kalastor

Main Point

  • rn it seems the best variants of RoK are anything but fire RoK. (runebinder, where RoK feels secondary to Rune of Hag, lightning RoK is the staple version, and ofc Radaggan with acid RoK, which I’m told is fine.)

I am a firm believer that skills should have end-game performance in their base damage type available to them, or they’re like bait for new players.

I also think it’s a shame there isn’t another RoK set for fire because there are soooo many things you can pair it with (not firestrike unless it’s some crazy cooldown version, we’ve seen enough of spam firestrike).

RoK + Callidor? RoK + a fire version of any of the demo bombs or BWC? RoK + Righteous Fervor? I don’t think anyone loves RF rn?

Or you could do a converted to fire option for the other skill to pair with RoK, fire primal strike, fire sigil of consumption, fire onslaught, fire leap? Fire TSS? Fire Devastation? Idk! Lots of potential here.

There are a lot of shenanigans that can be done with another skill recharging RoK. You could even increase RoK cooldown to give it TDM, but allow the other skill to recharge it so you get a nukier RoK dependant on the pairing.

I’d really like to see fire RoK as the star of a build for a change.

I think there’s great potential in burn focused RoK, since each individual rune stacks it’s own burn dot. A set which adds burn to the rune, or gives more charges, or allows one to bank in on the burn aspect of the rune would be very welcome. Kalastor does have a decent amount of support for elemental types, but I found it a bit odd that the physical to fire conversions lock you into either using the fleshwarped incinerator 2h gun, or anderos amplifier 1h gun…

Fire RoK has amazing gear already. It is just a bad skill at its core.

If you can lock your victim inside a closet you get to cosplay swamp king hefting his rock, but otherwise the bomblets disperse far too much.

Could you provide me with a build to play with it? Happy to adjust my stance. Though I still think a set for fire RoK would be neato

There’s a couple of Epic sets that exist that support Fire RoK

These could be Awakened if they’re not up to snuff as is.

What do you guys think about adding an explosion radius to the clusters on one of the nodes of kalastor? Similar to how canister bomb has that thing on improved casing? Would that help multiple clusters hit the same target?

@DeputyChuck and I were messing around making RoK builds and there seems to be pretty decent support for Fire RoK even without a set. I made a Paladin that I can link the GT later for you.

Personally I think Acid RoK suffers a bit more since you don’t have inherent +charges to the skill from gear like you do with Fire…

Agreed in that the 2-3 fragments causes it to not have a dependable application of damage. There is a suggestion thread to make it be 3 so you can damage in a full circle every time.

I’ll post the one I’ve been trying to perfect lately as soon as I get home to my PC.

The issue with my build in particular is that it’s glass, not that the damage of RoK is bad (it’s really good)

With the added charges to Artifact handling, I can bring a dummy to about half health in 5-6 seconds. That’s great, but it doesn’t really change the DPS for anything with more health than that because the charges give you lots of front loaded damage, but you’re then limited by cooldown just like with everything else.

But for everything up to and including Nemesis, RoK just melts things.

As for your main point: I’ve tested RoK in acid, physical, pierce, and fire. And fire has by far the best support and results. Pierce being the next best. I have not tried lightning though.

The issue with acid and physical is that they lean too much on added DoT, and RoK being a shotgun skill, DoT just won’t scale with the multiple fragments, nor with the multiple charges.

IMO, to make RoK better, we need 3 things:
1: what I suggested in the thread that @RxJunkie linked
2: Ignition needs to be much better at supporting RoK… Right now it’s just like “+1 fragment”
3: Inquisitor is just plain bad right now… A buff to the entire mastery is needed to justify playing RoK as a main skill.

As promised:

This is by no means the best possible fire RoK build… just what I have right now, and I’m not totally satisfied with it.

It used to be a mage hunter before, and it had even better damage, but it was way too glassy (even more than the paladin)

I’m assuming this is on ascendant, and which dummy?

There’s a massive difference between dummies that are up against a wall and those that are freestanding.

It was

Actually there kinda isn’t
The only times I noticed a meaningful difference was between dummies that are bunched up together and those that were standing alone. If looks like the huddled ones were shielding their neighbors somehow, because the output was much reduced when looking only at the main target (the OVERALL damage was of course much higher since it affected more than one target)

But when comparing dummies that were in a relatively open space vs those that were very close to a wall, there was actually no perceivable difference…

Awakened the Festerblaze?
