You have no idea how hard I’ve tried to make a chaos RE defiler work. :rolleyes:

Two damage types I don’t like. Vitality because even trash mobs are immune to it and it’s hard to get a support damagetype in addition to that (in early levels), chaos because it has almost no support (as far as I know we’re getting more chaos support in FG). We have two (hold tight) elemental masteries that have chaos RR. The only purely… uh wait… the only mastery that uses chaos damage is occultist, and even though it does deal chaos damage, it’s mainly about vitality. Thus I don’t like chaos (vitality still gets the first place, though).
Generally, chaos is so disliked (or was) by Crate that I even feel bad talking about it.
You would have thought that in an effort to combat the atherial invasion, more players would harness the power of the void. Why?
Because guess who the atherials (and even the witch gods) are afraid of?
I also think this item is possibly the BIGGEST insult to chaos that crate could’ve possibly have done: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/M2g4KpgV
I have this issue with Mythical Soulcatcher ( https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/7851 ), flat chaos damage to Ravenous Earth while supporting vitality skills (why?) and no good way to convert it…
At least there’s this : https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/8040
There should definitely be more options for converting damage types to chaos, vitality and elemental in the first place.
It would be pretty cool to make a pure chaos Doom Bolt build, or pure chaos Sigil build, or pure chaos Phantasmal Blades build.
Now I get it that the vitality damage values are typically lesser than other damage types, so it makes sense to have a lot of conversion to vitality. But with the gear for the Necro and abundant ways of reducing vitality resistance (Necro, Occultist, Shaman), I hope they will buff chaos damage via gear in Forgotten Gods, because it is thematically very impressive, the Esesence of Grim Dawn, one might say.
So we need a chaos based mastery. Perhaps should overhaul an incomplete idea about Phaserunner to fit chaos damage paired with these 3 references from DotA to be somewhat adapted:
1- Queen of Pain-like blink not weapon dependant skill;
//Phaserunner will be able to move at faster speed into target ground but not attack anyone.
2- Pudge-like hook for melee weapon only skill;
//Phaserunner will throw a hook to pull one enemy into him/her
3- Hurricane Pike-like for ranged weapon only skill;
//Phaserunner will attack once an enemy with such strength that both him/her and enemy hit by ranged attack are pushed back, away of each other
Something I did not notice this (about the damage of vitality).+Also on my character in total, you can gain more than -100% resistance to damage to vitality.And this is better than simply increasing the damage.
Enemies also tend to pack loads of Vit RR. -100% vit RR is generally considered as ‘low.’
I’d gun for -120%
~130 vit RR is “Power overwhelming” level of performance.
You can convert elemental to chaos via Blood Orb of Chton and there is a Conduit that converts piercing damage on PB into Chaos.
But overall Chaos sucks, very little support outside of Darkblaze set.
Black Flame set?
Show me one good build based on Black Flame set that can reliably do Crucible under 12 minutes and be efficient in Campaign.
Here is a crude attempt at vit/chaos RE from awhile back: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/eZPeaYKN
Still needs work obviously. Lots of chaos bolt/doom bolt procs included.
Never tested.
