[Poll] Does Stormcaller's Pact (Shaman's exclusive skill) need a buff

Hey,

So to me this exclusive skill is the worst one in the game. If you compare it with Oathkeeper’s Divine Mandate, very similiarly designed exclusive skill - it gives one less useful stat (not taking into account physical to lightning conversion which is not relevant for a lot of builds that use SP). Same if you compare it to Oleron’s Rage - one less useful stat. Even Aura of Conviction with its useless elemental dot boost provides something apart from %damage, OA (crit on SP), flat (flat dot on SP) - reduced burn duration (a bit of a joke as most Pierce related things in this game are).

Suggestions:

  • add total speed

or

  • add reduced Stun duration (which is in theme with the skill itself since Lightning damage causes stuns)

or

  • add racial damage to Aetherials (since they are the ones who are usually more resistant to Lightning).

Right now skill is underwhelming and most powerful Lightning characters - Vindicators - take Aura of Censure over it 9 times out of 10.

The only time I ever seem to use it is when there is no alternative, like on an elementalist or trickster.

Would a lightning vindicator ever take stormcaller over censure though? Genuinely surprised it happens 1/10 times because rr + % damage reduction debuff is so nice.

Could copy the AS and CS of Harbinger of souls.

Attack speed fits the character (picturing the shaman as a ruthless 2h melee) and cast speed for it’s inherited magical capabilities.

Still, in the end, I believe that, if it’s not a defensive-oriented buff, it will hardly change anything.
Possible neat stats :

  • XY% damage reduction (not %absorb, so can actually stack with %absorb)
  • Physical resistance
  • High armor bonus (could be coupled with DA)
  • Stun, Slow and Entrapment resistance (conceptual, but might be seen as too great).
  • Lightning and/or elemental Retaliation with flat lightning dmg and AS
  • Flat absorb (300-400 range. Might be too great for dots (become near immune) but still doesn’t do much for high damage attacks)
  • High Reflect DMG resistance with maybe +to all elemental resists
  • Low (-15% 12/12 -25%max 22/12) -RR% to lightning and Cold (if even possible).
  • Some non RNG %Lightning Damage
  • Some %OA/DA (if you don’t take Savagery, Shaman Mastery has no source of OA/DA)

Truth be told, that’s probably the most commun thing I always experienced with shamans (lack of OA/DA). Outside of some newly added aether resist, shaman’s defensive attributes were always very lacking : a bit of regen, some AR and pierce Resist.

I agree that Stormcaller’s Pact is bit on the weak side. I think Stun resists would be a good stat to add, it would mirror Divine Mandate and is fitting for a lighting exclusive.

And bit off topic but I would say that Reckless Power is a worse exclusive for most casters. Just compare the new Ulzuin set on sorcerer vs a purifier/shieldbreaker. The only useful stat you gain out of the exclusive on a sorcerer is damage%, which seems rather meager. Of course you could just go star pact, but that option is no longer available for aether casters.

I would agree with changing the chance for lightning dmg to just a normalized amount of % lightning dmg, and adding stun resist. Stun resist alone would open some things up.

Maybe it needs buff or we’re too much spoiled with Divine mandate.Something like total speed is helpful.For kiting casters,especially it will help them run,for Tether Vindy will increase cs and for attackers the attack speed.

Disagree with stun res. I’ve always pictured shaman as a 2h facewrecker without regards for defense so I’m gonna suggest something offensive. Not AS cause storm touched and there’s already a lot of exclusives with AS/CS. How about DA reduction on attack? It also kinda solves Shaman’s low OA issue.

It could use a little something. I’d like to see phys to lightning scaling to 20% at softcap and 25/30% at hardcap.

Well since it is usually the brittle mastery combinations that take stormcaller pact, like elementalist, offence is not what I would want on it. I like the stun reduction idea, makes it on par with divine mandate. Whatever Crate think is appropriate is fine with me though.

+1 -RR% to lightning only (just in case it’s op on any cold build with Shaman), so we could choose SP over AoC.

+1 change % chance lightning dmg into normal +%. It’s kind of overlap with Storm Touch.
Considering that Crate nerfed Storm Totem many times. It’s unlikely they are gonna change it this way.
That would give them reason to nerf ST again and again.

Even worse half of the time they wander away attacking irrelevant objects, same with BS.

I disagree an Elementalist has the most need of the exclusive. For them this would be worthless.

stormcaller main problem is chance to deal %1billion light dmg which is not cool idea when it comes to an exclusive skill.
lightning dmg in arpgs tend to has huge spikes and i like it , prolly stormcaller designed around this idea but i want consistent power from my exclusive.

also its huge struggle to pick shaman over other classes for casters, you lack oa da and hitting with savagery is silly option. putting oa da in this exclusive might be bad idea due to melee boiz will benefit more from it. you also lack any defensive stuff outside of hp and small resist provided from mog pact.

adding some movement speed on stormcaller might be cool.

-150,250 reduce target DA is really cool idea btw.

also offtopic, i hate windevils RR being only 1 sec and they most likely move around so slow and braindead.

Stormcaller’s Pact could probably afford to have a secondary conversion attached to it, along with a stronger phys to lightning conversion. In the past I would have said give it Aether to Lightning conversion, although we now have that easy to overcap anyway with the new shaman belt + Witch rings, so not nearly as valuable as it used to be. Perhaps Vitality to Lightning (Synergy with some shaman rings, makes Wendigo do a damage type you’re supporting some). Or even Fire>Lightning (Plays well with combo with Demo for an Elementalist)?

Also, normalize the %lightning damage, or at the very least, MAKE IT AVERAGE out the same as a flat %damage bonus, not weaker than one. Seriously, Stormcaller’s Pact gives more consistent %cold damage than %lightning damage.

That, plus some small defensive buff (Freeze resist and slow resist) and I think it would be fine.

I would give Stormcaller’s Pact %OA. Shaman doesn’t have any %OA in its tree, so it would complement Tenacity of the Boar very well.
