hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I’m trying to finish Port Valbury. I used a skeleton key to get past the gates, and then died whilst inside. I went back to the gates with another key but I can’t unlock the gates. How do I get back in?
Restart your character. Simply exit it and start again.
So you have to complete the whole thing without getting killed?
That’s right.
Thanks. I think I’ll give it a miss.
Yes, that’s why they’re called rogue-like dungeons. You either win or you die and in this game you only get one chance per game session. So you need to exit back to the main menu and then restart to try Port Valbury again.
Seems like your first of these dungeons.
Can´t recommend Port Valbury to start, choose Step of Torments or Bastion of Chaos.
Yes, it is. OK, I’ll look at the others first. Thanks.
Yeah, Port Valbury is easily the hardest of the base game rogue dungeons. Only go there when you have a good baseline of damage and defense.
Bastion of Chaos and Steps of Torment, as mentioned above, are much easier.
Yeah, died there a few days ago with full equipped toon.
Not the brightest idea to charge one of the flying monoliths with a lot of exploding fire trash mobs around without really overcapped Fire Resistance.
Glad I’m not the only one…
Yea you really need alot of aether resist and general elemental resist, otherwise you get thrashed real quick, took me a couple tries especially on the final boss with the buff mechanic
Perhaps you were underleveled?
You can check out the level ranges of the enemies here.
Thanks for the link. I was level62 in normal.
Yeah… going in Blind into Valbury will kill most people. The difference in DMG compared to Steps or Bastion is pretty big. And then there is the boss :furious: Love this dungeon
Port Valbury is the right definition of what a rogue dungeon should be about. Massive, huge, good lore, full of aoe ground damage, very lovely boss fight and it served as a precursor introduction to the xpac: ashes of Malmouth at the time it was released.
this time around hype is building up as I cant wait to see the how the upcoming 5th rogue dungeon will showcase the next xpac;)
added: Ancient Grove also hinted us to more Eldrtich enemies in forgotten gods
Don’t know why you feel the need to have that ‘base game’ qualifier in there. Port Valbury is much harder than Ancient Grove in me experience.
Steps of torment = Bastion of Chaos < Ancient Grove << Port Valbury
With some variation for spec (ie fire danage kiter specs will find BoC’s boss notably harder than SoT’s usually)
And it has great music. My favorite Rogue-like in the game.
I find Ancient Grove harder than Valbury, specially the bosses.
I guess it depends on the build also. In PB, you can’t flee and run back in some areas. I’d say PB is more suited to melee and AG to Casters.
The Midboss Snake in AG is the hardest midboss of all Rogue-like dungeons. The last boss in PB, imo, is harder because it’s more difficult to hide and kite. Gargabol can take 20 minutes if you kite him, like a mini-Celestial, but it’s doable.
