Primal strike

Hey, was thinking about trying out some kind of primal strike melee build but was unsure if it counts as a “default attack”. If I use primal strike will it proc things like upheaval and feral hunger? Not sure if this skill was changed at all to interact with these 2 abilities or not. At work and can’t test but if anyone can answer thanks and good day

Even non-transmuted, it isnt a default attack.
Hell, i think even tooltip on it clearly states that it is NOT a default attack.

IF you want default attack, use Savagery. Primal Strike is meant to be powerful without the help from WPS skills.
If you want melee PS, stick either with Avenger set (physical), or Ultos (lightning)

It should work if you autoattack when it’s on cooldown, similar to ABB.

Yes, but you better use Savagery then, when PS is on CD. Although i cant imagine how PS can be successful without transmuter.

Neither I am, just felt it would be right to clarify this.
Savagery+PS is a nice concept, but no way you’d have enough points for Savagery, PS, Brute Force line, Raging Tempest, Stormcaller pact, Mog pact and something from other mastery as well.

Yeah, you can try it only with very good gear (something like full Ultos set, which provides huge bonuses to both Savagery and PS).
Main question is - is it WORTH investing into both Savagery and PS, instead on focusing completely on one ability? I think, it isnt, in AoM. And that’s why, you dont use non-transmuted PS - because it cant be used as main attack skill only, you have to put something in-between.

Points aren’t the problem, exactly. The fact that there isn’t a gear set that supports Primal Strike worth a damn in the game is.

I could hit 26 instead of 25 by taking a shaman belt…but there’s no +shaman belt for lightning for some insane reason. There’s a blue with elemental support, but kind of lousy outside of that. There’s no excuse to be 5 dedicated pieces into a skill and not capped. Also Ultos is one of those early sets that sucks to work with trying to play resist tetris. Yay 144% overcap lightning resist…yay for a melee-centric set that gives caster levels of defense (yes I’m aware that 2hand range is probably better than the 5 piece for just that reason, but dammit if I’m going to do it I’m taking the extra on crit attack). Rings for lightning are just as ludicrous, with the real choices being 2 pieces of a mage set or a level 84 lightning/pet ring that is probably better for damage anyway thanks to the flat damage on the proc.

But hey, you get blue text with the mythical set! 1.2 meters extra area and 35% crit damage. Meh. Not bad at all, but meh. And the only other blue text enhancer to Primal Strike requires breaking the set.

I seriously almost started a thread the other day to ask if a Primal Strike Shaman bit the devs when they were children, because Ultos was always a clunky set to work with and comes across as very weak as a mythic set. ESPECIALLY for what should be an iconic build for the class. An iconic build that rarely gets used because it’s kind of been gimpy since the very beginning.

PS wasn’t a half bad nuker in vanilla. With the buffs to it in xpac, extra conversion, and extra points to play with it’s awesome. Ultos set gained another 4% (or was it 2?) cdr too!

Guess what has a 2.1 sec cooldown and produced a 705k crit for me on the dummy

I played around with that earlier tonight. Vindicator seems pretty good, but I really feel like Ultos 5 piece should be worth using somehow.

I think I changed like half the gear, then ended up changing almost all of it back while playing around. It’s almost a straight weapon swap and change of 2nd class.

ETA: Oh, wait. I think I ended up dropping Primal Strike entirely with that one. And STILL using Ultos 4 piece. Meh.
