Priority of resistances to cap/overcap

Per title, what are the most important resistances to overcap in the main campaign/crucible? The top 3 that comes to mind are fire, lightning and aether but I’d like to know what the vets think. Bleed was often sacrificed pre-AoM because its DoT nature means you can’t be burst to death by bleeding.

Overcapping everything by 30 would be ideal but I don’t have the patience to farm MI pants, rings and craft a gazillion boots to get a bunch of double rare Incorruptible/Unyielding/Stonehide/etc. of Kings/Reptilian Resilience/Dranghoul/etc. Besides, I’ve taken a liking to Mythical Arcane Harmony Leggings because of the skill disrupt resist, massive DA and its craftable nature.

By 30? 30-40ish in the elemental resistances would be nice, and a bit of pierce but you don’t really start needing resistances until near Log.

For priorities elemental+poison+vitality > bleed/aether/chaos (location dependant!) > pierce.

Pierce damage is an odd one because it is everywhere but outside a few endgame bosses (fabius) there doesn’t really seem to be lots of it anywhere.

With proper build, you done need specific MI pants or double-rare items. Just look at my build for example, everything is overcapped by 30+, all important CC resists are capped or near cap too, and his DPS is still formidable.

What to overcap? it depends on your enemy. In crucible, i’d recomend to over everything.

I’ve been always prioritising elemental aether and chaos. Because of enemies that debuff for these, or debuff for everything while doing these

Lightning>Poison>Fire>Vitality>Aether, the rest dosent matter much.

Thanks for all the advice! A bit surprised to see vitality mentioned a few times but I guess vit is hard to notice since its not as flashy as the elemental and aether attacks. Poison also makes sense with those horrible ground pools.

I have a forcewave WB based on your guide so I know. However, the item support for some builds lend themselves to comfortably overcap resists more than others. jaja’s electrocute warder is still my fave build. That build easily overcaps with only the suggested epics and legendaries and its OA and DA is just above 3K with savagery up.

Other builds like Darkblaze pyromancer or Dagallon purifier I am barely able to cap most resists even when I introduced items with stonehide prefix. Their OA and DA is also only around 2.5-2.8K with temp buffs up. In this case, tradeoffs have to be made hence why I made this topic.

IIUC resistance does not help against damage from ground effect pools. Please correct me if I’m wrong
