Problem: Steam Grim Dawn fails to start

Dear all;

hoping that this is the right forum section, I’m here to resolve some problems occurred after the patch 1.0.0.5 (also, probably, after the Win 10 annyversary update).
For me Grim Dawn fails to start.

I also posted this thread on the Steam-dedicated forum and followed, before writing here from you, the tech advice on this forum and advice from customer care (thanks Eric!).

I’ve checked the files integrity two times with Steam and files-repair program in the game directory and the files was good.
Also with Crucible DLC buyed and installed and after one complete re-installation of the game, he starts always whit “prepare to launch the game” popup and then go instatly to Sync files.

I try the Admin option for GD.exe. When the game started he gived to me the “.DLL issue” like the last year when i updated Win8 to Win10.
I copied new file.DLL to system folders (System32 and SysWOW64) for MSVCR100, MSVCP100 and FreeImage.dll for 32 and 64bit.

I’ve verify and repaired the files other two times and re-completly re-install the game, and forced the application to use the nvidia drivers (DirectX is v12), but the game fail to start always in the same manner (“ready to start” popup -> Syncronization whitout running the game).

This are my Laptop spec:

ASUS VivoBook serie S550CB - Intel® Core™ i7-3537U CPU 2.00GHz (4 CPUs); Ram: 8 GB Kingstone DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM; SV: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M con 2GB DDR3 VRAM; OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit

Whit these configuration, before the game update 1.005 and Anniversary update for Win 10, i played the game at maximum quality.

Also with the latest hotfix, nothing to do.
The other games in my Steam Collection start normally and i played GD for 100 hours with no problem before the updates.

How i can resolve?

Thanks in advance

You say you played around with DLLs, but did you manually run the exe’s in the redistributables folder installed in the steamapps/common/Grim Dawn folder?

I wonder if when you try to manually install each of those if you can find one that fails to get install properly.

I ran manually the .exe inside Grim Dawn install folder (DXSETUP.exe, dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe and vcredist_x64.exe and vcredist_x86.exe as explained in the stiky post in this thread “Upgraded to Win 10 and problems with GD. Please try this before posting”.) and i copied manually the new files to system folders for MSVCR100, MSVCP100 and FreeImage.dll (32 and 64bit).

Try to right-click grim dawn in your library -> properties -> local files -> check integrity of game cache

Oops. nevermind you have already tried this… hmmm

At this point, I uninstall the game and will wait for the next patch to install it again, hoping for some improvement. :frowning:

Did you do a update to win10 or have u tried a clean win10 installation?

The problem arose after the joint update of Win10 anniversary update and GD. Never did a clean install of Win10; my OS has been upgraded from Win8.1 to Win10 without problems.
With Win10, GD has always worked fine until now.

Problem solved!
All thanks to the resolution of another issue related to another game: Elder Scroll Online.
The ESO game client suffers from a fairly well-known problem that concerns the freezing during the download screen, preventing you to install and play at ESO.
This problem is related to the error 0xc00007b. This error mainly generates because of mixing up the 32-bit environment with 64-bit one.
It means you have a 32-bit application that attempts to load 64-bit DLLs.
The 0xc000007b error is also referred to damage to the Microsoft Visual C ++ (2005, 2008, 2010 or 2012) or modification of the same.
The only viable and functional solution that I could find was in the re-installation of the broken packet (in my case the VC ++ 2005, 2008 and 2010) after uninstalling the game and cleaned up all.

Having done that, I reinstalled the ESO client. The game started quietly without problems.
Having suspected from the start of a similar problem for GD, I reinstalled him even on STEAM and … ThaDhaaaaa! The game works perfectly!

To reinstall the Microsoft VC ++, I downloaded and used the AIO Driver Package (http://www.mgnad.com/download-aio-package-fix-0xc00007b-error/), which also installed to me other software packages useful for Java Run Time and Frame Network.

1.Uninstall the game by putting the save safely for not start all over again
2.Uninstall the Microsoft Visual C ++ that you currently have on your PC
3.Cleaned everything with CCleaner and fixate any problems with the DLLs
4.Restart your PC
5.Install the game again and the Microsoft Visual C ++ redistributable
6.Reboot your PC and then run the Game
