Production/consumption questions (mathematically impossible situation?)

For the last 5 years I’ve been trying to diversify the food on my settlement with foragers, farms, and arborists. I’ve had only 4 hunters (+1 smokehouse) since the start of the game and no other source of meat. But population has gone up in the last 5 years and so has food consumption (but not production). This what the graphs are showing for my production / consumption of smoked meat:

5 years ago I had a stock of exactly 604 (checked old save game), and after 5 years I now have a stock of 1212 meat:

How is this mathematically possible? Stocks should be close to zero after THAT much consumption.
Why are my consumption numbers and graphs so high? Are the graphs inaccurate?

If not - then what counts as consumption?
If someone grabs 400 smoked meat and puts it in a temporary shelter, does that count as immediate 400 consumption?
If a grocer grabs 800 meat from the root cellar and puts it in the market, does that count as immediate 800 consumption?
What else can count as “fake consumption” here?
My suspicion is that something is counting meat as consumed but that same meat is still counted as being in stock, which is contradictory.

This is important for me because I use the 12 months report to make decisions for my industries.
Do I need more meat? More paper? Maybe I’m overproducing clay and removing people from mines will give me more laborers. The graphs let me see what’s out of tune and what needs fixing. But if the report is inaccurate… I’m not sure what I’ll do tbh.

Edit: I manually checked my stock. I have smoked meat in:

  • Market: 830
  • Root Cellar 1: 48
  • Root Cellar 2: 274
  • Smokehouse: 60

These add up to 1212 stock. Seems correct.

  • Temporary shelter: 217
  • Shelters: 451 (6+3+24+14+16+20+10+4+15+15+14+7+15+0+4+13+8+13+16+15+19+21+10+26+17+21+13+15+19+13+19+13+9+4+0) 43/45 shelters have meat stocked, so there’s no distribution problem
  • Fish/hunt/forager/hospital: 52 (10+7+4+0+0+16+8+6+1)

These numbers are not counted towards stock. Seems correct.

I’m out of ideas.
What is consumption?

Edit2: 1 year later, the graphs stayed the same, and now I have 1860 meat in stock

Edit3: Did some research, and this is indeed a bug in the 12month report data.

You need to expand the area of your fields. Just make sure you’ve cleared all the weeds. If you’re severely short on food, you can start with a rotation: peas + clover + turnip. Once you have enough food, you need to aim for a minimum field fertility of 90% to improve productivity.

There’s a very detailed article by Oleus in the forum. You should find and read it.

Is it possible you’re not taking into account the food that immigrated villagers bring with them?
