Se let’s say I’ playing a Commando, a classic physical and fire build. Let’s say I want to pick a default attack modifier but I’m torn between Cadence and Fire Strike. Even though at first glance FS looks more tempting because every strike counts (unlike Cadence), I still think CD will probably end up being a better pick against bosses and as an endgame skill for my build in general.
But I also wanna use Markovian’s Advantage to it’s full potential (or at least soft capped). Even though Commando has plenty of other options for DA reduction in both masteries, but I want to have something passive due to energy problems and other factors, I think MA should generally be good enough for that purpose (and some extra dmg).
But here the problem arises, I think the max chance of MA to proc is around 25-30%. And Cadence only affects every 3rd weapon strike. Does that mean that I’ll have a higher chance to proc MA with FS?
This is generally speaking about Cadence, I kinda never enjoyed Cadence for that reason solely, but if Cadence also has lower chances to proc default attack modifiers then I’m definitely picking FS instead.
To expand a bit on Norzan’s reply, the cadence proc overrides any other WPS so that you always get a sequence like default-default-cadence, wps-wps-cadence, default-wps-cadence, or wps-default-cadence.
That said, the first two strikes of the cadence line still count as being ‘cadence’ from a power proc perspective, so devotions attached to cadence can fire on the initial 2 strikes, even if those 2 strikes trigger a wps such as MA.
If you have 100% chance to proc a WPS, cadence will still always fire on the third strike, negating any WPS you could have otherwise procced. This is usually advantageous, since the cadence proc is so beastly, but if you have skill modifiers or other reasons to want other skills to fire during your attacks, Fire Strike has no such override mechanic.
Thanks both! So if I understand correctly FS still has better chance to procs WPS skills because there is no “reserved hits” so unlike cadence WPS can proc on any attack. Well I think I’ll still go with cadence, I don’t think the difference should be all that noticeable and still think that cadence is a bit better fit for my build, on top of all that FS requires more skill points if I want to max it out accordingly.
I believe skill mods only affect the third strike, but I have never tested that out in game. My thought process is that the text of the skill mod is basically added to the text of the skill, and the text of Cadence only applies to the third strike despite the first two strikes still proccing devotions.
