Question about Devotions

I’m a newbie trying to build my own build, but I’m not sure which Devotion to choose.

  1. Devotion that reduces resistance of main attributes
  2. Final tier Devotion of main attributes
I know I have to target these two, but I don’t know what to choose from the paths I have to go through for those two.

Ghoul and the empty throne are easily selected for any build, but is there any other Devotion that is good to take anytime besides these two?
(I used a translator)

You want to aim for at least one tier3 devotion, that supports your damage type.

Reduced resistances: Chose either Scales, Manticore or Revenant. (Either/or! Their reductions do not stack). Then ofc, chose the respective -rr devotion (Solaels blade for fire/chaos e.g., and so on). You can ignore Viper, at least for the -rr, which is of little effect.

Good to take anytime:
Only if it suits the color of your path. Sailor is quite popular. Maybe Jackal. All the other devotions will be streamlined to your path (purple, yellow for physical and piercind damage e.g.)

Generally what you should be building around is twofold: You’ll want a tier 3 devotion that supports your damage type (not ALWAYS the case, just a general pointer; if you’re playing a regen build you might go for Tree of Life and won’t have the points to get a tier 3 damage devotion as well, for instance), and a (usually tier 2) devotion that has -X% resistance debuff on enemies for your damage type. Depending on what you have access to you might also try to build into a flat resistance reduction devotion (like Rhowan’s Crown) but not always, since this type of resistance reduction doesn’t stack and you might already have a source on your skill tree or gear.

Once you know what the end goal you’re building towards is, you’ll be trying to look for the most efficient way to get there. Efficient either a) on the points you spent – Wraith, Eel, Quill, Toad are super-efficient on points for instance, most purely Order and Chaos devos are not; or b) efficient in what you get – getting useful offensive or defensive devotion skills, covering lifesteal your build otherwise lacks, filling out resistances your best-in-slot gear doesn’t provide, improving crowd control resistance, energy sustain, etc.

First, you should get devotions, that reduce enemy resistance to damage you deal. Something like Rhowan’s Crown, Revenant, Ultos, Viper, Murmur, Widow, Rattosh, etc.
Second, you should get really strong devotions that fit your build. Those can be of any tier. Ghoul is one of those for attack builds, as is Kraken for 2-h builds, etc. (empty throne is NOT one of those). Most probably, there will be at least one T3 devotion supporting your damage among those too (but not always).
Third, you try make a build to fit those in and optimize it.
And that’s it.
