Question about Firestrike

Hi. I am wondering about firestrike. The main skill says it is consisting of fragments. So what i wonder is if this means that the damage is fragmented too? I am confused, it doesnt list what these fragments are. And how does it work with melee compared to ranged.

Are you sure you’re not getting the fragments added by Brimstone confused here?

For melee, the damage of Brimstone is simply added to the attack. It only splinters for ranged. A question I have is whether or not the splinters do just the damage of Brimstone or if they do full damage as main target.

no no the first skill the main skill has fragments

I believe Brimstone’s damage is added to the main Fire Strike shot. The fragments off the shot just deal the damage on Brimstone. This is also how other similar skills like Vile Eruption for DEE or Proliferation for Panetti’s Missile work.

What you are seeing is Brimstone. But the effect stacks on top of and shows in Fire Strike’s tooltip as well. Pretty sure other skills do the same like Cadence shows the # of targets hit by Fighting Form or Blade Arc updates the maximum number of targets hit with the amount added by Laceraiton.

i figured it out, the mainskill lists brimstone to it. ok i misunderstood brimstone. Something else would be then will melee add 6 times (6 fragments) of the listed brimstone damage to 1 attack>?

I believe for melee it deals the damage that 1 fragment of ranged brimstone would deal. This is the reason why ranged fire strike is so popular and melee is not even a midlevel. But this is a good piece of flat damage still and definitely worth investment.

Both fire and cold Fire Strike are decent for melee but that’s mostly gear support and brute damage. Melee unlike ranged can’t get multiple shotgun projectiles.

Actually what makes ranged FS good is interaction between it and projectile based WPS skills like Inquisitor ones or Jaxxon’s rings. Without them Fire Strike isn’t going to make much damage ranged.

And don’t forget melee by default have higher damage than ranged.

Yep, I probably used a bad wording. ‘Not even midlevel’ for melee firestrike was related to its popularity, not general performance. It is not bad, but ranged is just a way better.
