Question after seeing last Developer stream

Its about the difficulty part. If I understood it right. You think Normal and Veteran was to easy, that I get it is yes, and you want to fix the big enemys difficulty wall you ran into when entering Elite and Ultimate.
And instead of lowering Elite and Ultimate you raise Normal and veteran wich makes sense.

After that I thought that was it, but then we are told that Elite will be like how ultimate is now, then my question is how hard will Ultimate then be? If not using mods and “cheats” and dont have alot sets laying around how will you be able to handle this? Ulimate is hard as it is when facing it as the game is intended.

For a new player (not me) I think this will be insane and make players hit a wall they cant get past. I dont think you should have done anything with Elite and Ultimate.
To be fair I dont think alot can blaze through Ultimate as said in the stream unless they have full sets or help from “tools”
And further concerns are the leveling, I have after 2100 hours burned out of the old long content to get through to reach endgame. I get the difficulty raise on Normal and Veteran. But after seeing the stream I can see that now leveling will take alot longer wich leaves you on the old content longer because it takes more time killing stuff and completing quests. There will be an xp buff on Veteran on 30% but what does it actual do than level you up? You still have to run though all content. In my head the leveling will be a long tiddious (dont know how to spell it) thing.

And another concern is that if you not buff all sets in the game and rework some minion sets, then these can end up being useless. Necro pets are weak on ultimate as it is now specially the skeletons they often die. They will automaticly run away when you enter the new Ultimate because they know it will be suicide. And Are you thinking of buffing some skills and defenses on skilltree aswell for this?

That was my thoughts and hopefully it will not end up like this. Its hard to tell out of a stream but this was what I got out of seeing this, the rest the patch seems to bring is awesome as usual and great job on those.

The game balance is only really affected in 2 ways:

  1. Base game enemies (not those from FG or AoM) were brought up to par with expansion enemies.

  2. Enemies in earlier levels (especially on Veteran difficulty) were buffed

This means that if you could make it through all Ultimate expansion content before, not much will change for you.

You totally missunderstood.

There are three parts of Grim Dawn:
Base game
Ashes of Malmouth (AoM)
Forgotten Gods (FG)

If you ever have played Grim Dawn, you know that it is a big step going from Necropolis to AoM and FG content, in any difficulty. For instance AoM and FG in Elite is harder than base game content in Ultimate.

So what they have done is to make the difficulties more consistent over the acts from the different parts of Grim Dawn. In particular the Veteran difficulty which will get harder and get 10% experience buff.

This will

  1. Make the game more challenging for new players (you might have seen many complaining about that normal/veteran is kinda a joke, its more of a 15 hours tutorial :stuck_out_tongue: )
  2. Make veteran seem like the go-to choice for a more experienced player of the genre.
  3. Will make the transition from the different parts of Grim Dawn, and difficulties, more smooth - the base game monsters will get harder in all difficulties, not only in veteran.

Look, if you haven’t figured out how to level new chars efficiently after 2100 hours in the game, perhaps its time to learn it?
