Question on first play through ect.

When you’re leveling, should you be focused on defense/res or are things like +direct stats more lucrative? Should you stop and farm anywhere or should you just push through to the second difficulty? How long should it take to get where? I used to play a lot and never beat the first difficulty, I was only playing HC Veteran last I played and took off the HC part to try and beat the game and get a better understanding for it… Now presently I would like to know good tips so I can progress ect. Last I played I got to cronley around 25~ and I remember I had to start farming until almost 32 because I hadn’t found any gear in forever… Just looking for tips.

Generally speaking, resistances are the ones you look for until they are maxed at 80%, then just pick up whatever you like, either damage or stats are fine.

You don’t really need to farm unless you want to be really prepared for next difficulty, which is after finishing act 4

My playthroughs (not rushed) are usually as followed:

  • Act 1 (Warden): level 20-22
  • Act 2 (Cronley): level 29-32
  • Act 3 (Homestead): level 38-40
  • Act 4 (Necropolis): level 45-46
  • Dungeon farm until level 50 for leftover quests and items

So do you generally play melee or range or magic? 80% Resistance on all stats or just the main ones? With focususing on main resistances, do you find that fights take quite a bit longer than if you focus on defensive stats but you can tank for a much longer time? I’m making a blademaster right now, been playing for two hours and just hit level 15. I’m following this guide here and I like it so far but how long does a 1-50 profile normally take a person?

With leveling, do you only fight large packs/rare/epic/unique mobs or do you fight everything?

For a first playthrough I wouldn’t even do veteran. Except for making the fights harder and take longer there is no appreciable benefit. You don’t get a better chance of better gear or anything as far as I’ve understood.

Resists don’t really because a huge necessity until act 1 or act 2 of elite and I don’t think it is possible to max all your resists in normal/veteran because the resists are much lower on gear and a lot of the augments and things are locked until higher levels and higher levels of reputation. I’m not saying don’t get your resists as good as you can but you won’t max them and if you do it won’t be until level 50, unless I am missing something?

I’ve got so many characters that I tinker and play with I don’t think I have a “general” play style anymore.

The question of how long it takes really depends on the person and how they play. Some people like to uncover the whole map and some people like to run through to their goals or the next shrine or potentially something else. It also depends if you jump from normal/vet into elite as soon as you kill the last boss or if you hang around in norm/vet to farm bounties for reputation and to unlock the awesome augments.

I can get through a normal run in six and a half hours but I won’t be level 50 and I will have missed a bit of stuff but nothing essential. Also speed of the run depends on your movement speed and your speed at killing bosses and heroes, so quite hard to give you an estimate. A lot of the top guys skip act 1 normal all together as I understand it.

Focusing on resists shouldn’t have any impact on your kill speed as they are passive benefits of armour you wear. Make sure you do use your components though to increase the damage types you need. Though personally I save the rarer hard to get components for higher levels and better gear.

Following pretty much any build that is listed in the compendium is a good place to start for a first run through character.

Hope this helps.

Don’t think too much on your first playthrough. My first 2-3 characters are basically trash and can’t even go past level 30, but they helped me understand the game a lot. I encourage new players to do the same, just go absurdly wrong, then trash the character and start over with better understanding, don’t try to get it right from the start

Thanks for the tips guys, I was told to play on Veteran because the jump from normal non-vet to elite is just way to large of a jump, as long as not playing on HC they said it’s worth it because then it’s real

If your build is solid and your resistances are decent the jump from normal to elite is really not that large. In fact in many ways elite is easier than veteran, at least in my experience. The jump from elite to ultimate though, oh yeah, if your resistances aren’t up to scratch, you are going to feel the pain.

Didn’t find a “all newbies questions” so ty to ask here: can i f**ed up with devotions just visiting shrines or it just give me skills points which i can spend after finding needable ones? Sry for bad english:o

Uh you try and find all the shrines, either pay something or fight the mobs and then you get devotion points, just like skill points and you can assign them.

You can’t really f*** up anywhere, only miss shrines or not get maximum efficiency out of your points (it takes a lot of experience).
Devotion points can be reset by the oracle girl in the prison, but take one aether crystal per point reset.

Now i got it right, thx a lot ))
