Question - Storm Box and Casting Speed

Hi all!

Is Storm Box of Elgoloth affected by casting speed?

How many times per second can Storm Box hit a target?

Its got a tick, of course. Meaning it deals lightning damage every second, for , idk, 5 seconds or so.
No matter what your cast speed is.

And it deals a DoT with its modifier. So from what people say in this forum, this DoT actually increases with casting speed.

And if you were to use Allagast and the Chosen-MI-helm, you have 0 cooldown with your Stormbox. This way you can apply it over and over again on the same enemy.
With capped cast speed, this results in about 4 Ticks per second (meaning the pure storm box, not the modifier), instead of 1 per second. Which also increases the damage ofc.

can not this be easy testing on practice dummy? just turn on damage number displey and wear different cast speed gears

Hold on.

So what you’re saying is:

Storm Box of Elgoloth (but not Lightning Tether) will stack on the same enemy, and procs at 1 tick per second, so with 0s cooldown, you can stack it four times per second.

Lightning Tether DOES NOT stack on the same target though, unless the AOE damage is coming from multiple nearby sources (if you’re tethering to multiple, grouped up enemies).

Is that right?

Storm Box doesn’t scale on casting speed but Lightning Tether does. I can’t remember who but someone in the Russian community (might have been John_Smith?) posted a video a long time ago of dummy tests with varying amounts of cast speed and got quicker kills with more cast speed. Way back in Ashes of Malmouth, the same was also confirmed by Zantai as well.

As far as I understand the skill:

Storm Box is a debuff that applies damage to a tagged enemies and everything around it in an AoE. Because of the AoE part, it can stack with multiple enemies nearby:

If you have 2 enemies A and B stood next to each other and tag A with Storm Box, B will also be damaged by A’s Box. Similarly, if you then tag B afterwards, A will take damage from A’s Storm Box and B’s Storm Box as well, and B will take damage from A’s and it’s own etc… Using Storm Box twice or more on the same enemy or A in this case shouldn’t stack the effects, only prolong the debuff’s duration.

Lightning Tether applies a ticking damage to anyone debuffed and who the tether line passes trough in addition to Box’s damage that applies several times per sec scaling up with casting speed. Like Box, it can stack with multiple enemies and the right positioning:

If A and B are stood so B is behind A and B is tagged by Storm Box + Tether. Both A and B are damage by B’s Tether as it passes through A and is attached to B. If you then attach a Box + Tether to A, A will take twice of Lightning Tether’s damage as B’s Tether is passing through it and it is being damaged by one of it’s own.

It does not really “stack” in the sense of this term.
But
If you cast SB on a single enemy, it will take damage once every second, right?
If your SB has zero cooldown, and you spam that skill on the same single enemy with about 4 casts per second, you re-apply SB. And every re-application starts with another damage tick.
Thereby increasing your SB damage (compared to only damaging ONCE per second)
