Quests that force you to exit game...

I’ve encountered 3 of them already.

The Hidden Path (turns out this one was a bug, thanks for letting me know guys)
Gates of Anguish
And a random bounty from Devil’s Crossing…

Not particularly fond of exiting the game to reset a quest. For the Hidden Path and Gates of Anguish, I died while fighting the bosses. It’d be nice to at least have a chance to get my exp back.

Upon death, perhaps the quest/boss could reset itself - without having to exit the game.

In the case of the bounty, I understand that you could skip the bounty, but then that will reduce your number of bounties for the session, which will ultimately force you to exit the game, anyway. If bounties are repeatable, may as well allow them to have infinite bounties per session, so we don’t have to exit the game. :stuck_out_tongue:

Having never encountered in the Hidden Path Quest line i can’t comment on that. But if you indeed aren’t permitted to retrieve your corpse during the quest-line it should be changed

Gates of Anguish is a challenge dungeon like BoC and Upcoming Aetherial Dungeon. The high stakes is what makes it so exciting. Being able to enter multiple times in a game session by simply using a Skeleton Key would nullify the purpose of a skeleton key. It’s perfect the way it is, it’s part of end-game content. It’s like being able to reset Crucible at the wave 149

I don’t see your problem with bounties, it’s not an uncommon practice to exit and re-enter to get a desired bounty.

I’m not suggesting leaving the gate open for you to re-enter. For example, when I first discovered this area, I used the Skeleton Key the npc gave me to enter the dungeon. I died to a boss in the dungeon, so I made another Skeleton Key with crafting, and went back to the gate to retry. The gate wouldn’t open, though, so I was forced to exit the game to try again.

Having it reset would prevent exiting the game, and you will still need the Skeleton Key of course.

For bounties, wouldn’t it be better to skip bounties until you get a desired one, instead of having to exit?

You can, there is an option like that, smth like “skip bounty, see next one”.

Um, you do know that you can go back to where you died, find your tombstone and reclaim most of the lost XP don’t you? Not in Gates of Anguish of course, but most other places you can. And not if playing HC of course.

Bounties are only available once per play session so can’t be repeated in the same session.

Why would you have to exit for the Hidden Path ?

If you die in a challenge dungeon you cannot go back in, that is the whole point…

@ IcePenguin

what about simply not dying?
People have completed the whole game on Ultimate
in hardcore mode, so it is possible.

Thank you for the replies everyone.

@mamba; I had to exit for the Hidden Path quest because the rock in the pictures wouldn’t go back down. The spot where I died was on the other side of it near the boss.

@Neolisk; If you skip too many bounties, you will have to exit eventually to do more.

Well, what I’m trying to say for bounties and areas like Gates of Anguish is: I understand that they can only be done once per session. But if ending the session allows you to try them again, why not remove that step, and just reset the quest upon death, or completion, so you can retry again without having to exit?

I’m just trying to understand why the current way makes you exit the game. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit:
@Arkon; I wish I was that good! Haha…

That’s not by design. That would be a bug and should be reported as such.

The Temple of the Three is not a Riftgate Suppression Zone. You can and should drop a portal before engaging the Sentinel.

Omg, is this bug live and kicking again?

I see, so the rock not going down is a bug? I will edit the original post then. Thank you for letting me know! :stuck_out_tongue:

My inquiry still stands for the remaining two, though. I’m just wondering if there is a reason for only allowing one run per session for certain things. If it’s a high risk/high reward thing, that can still be easily done without having us to exit the game.

Anyway, I hate to drag this out. I just curious by nature, and generally have an open mind to things! Haha. :o

Engine limitations prevent resetting zones of the map conditionally. Its full reset, or no reset, and they also want a limit on how much you can do in one play sessions as well, as lategame there is a legendary limiter which prevents you from getting multiple of the same type of legendary in one play session from drops (Crafting Random legendaries has no such limiter though, much to my chagrin when I’ve crafted back to back 2 Venomspine Greaves and 2 Panetti’s Wands…). If you could artificially extend a session, you could game it to try and abuse it in the roguelike dungeons.

Unlike quests, bounties can be done over and over again.

That really helps, thanks Steelflame! I am content with that, and it actually makes sense.
