Quitting over drop rates

Just wondering if anyone else decided to quit the game due to dismal legendary drop rates? I typically play in co-op with my wife but she refuses to play because she finds drop rates unacceptable. So now I am forced to play Diablo because of this…

It doesn’t sound like you had a problem with the drop rates. Not sure why you would let someone’s opinion impact your decision to play a game.

I’m guessing that she is playing Diablo and you want to play video games with your wife? If so, that’s great.

What are you really wanting?

If you want legendary drop rates improved, then make a thread in the Ideas and Feedback forum. Be sure to post your reasons/ideas/numbers.

Otherwise, if players have already quit, not sure they would see this thread because why would they come to the forum for a game they don’t play or like to play?

Some useful information to share rather than just a blanket statement:

What difficulty are you playing on?

Where are you looking for Legendaries?

Have you tried the Legendary blacksmith?

What are your expectations of loot drops?

Your statement should say, “My wife isn’t getting what she wants so I have to hide my tail between my legs and only do what she wants.”

Love is great.

The rate at which legendaries drop is actually right where it should be, imo. Getting specific legendaries is where the problem comes in, and I’m not sure how it could be improved without making legendary gear as a whole into vendor trash.

For reference, I get my legendaries from Steps of Torment, the Twin Falls hive, and the dermapteran hive in the Rotting Croplands, on Ultimate.

This game has pretty generous drops, if you quit GD over it, don’t try PoE

Drops can be very frustrating  I remember killing Loghorrean on Normal for the first time (back when he was really hard) with a pet build after 17 deaths and getting squat. The other point that can be annoying is, like Jabarto said, getting specific items or just items for specific slots.

There are maybe some things that could be done to smooth out the RNG experience. Perhaps every act boss could drop a guaranteed legendary on first kill? That could be changed to epics for some bosses in normal. This would be helpful for newer players.

As for getting the specific legendaries like Jabarto mentioned, maybe blacksmiths could be changed so you can pick an exact slot instead of the more general categories we have now. Getting the armor SLOT that you want is in itself a gamble that you will likely lose. Oh, and converting old crafting materials to new seems… expensive  Maybe it could be changed to 3:1 or something like that?

Anyway, I love the game and have put many an hour into it. Many, many hours. Great work Crate.

P.S. Just to clarify, I’m talking from a perspective of a non-Crucible player - I understand things drop there like candy so that may change a player’s perspective. I just don’t like horde modes.

While I won’t be quitting over this, I can easily understand the frustration.

For the last 30 hours of gaming, I had done the following run: Warden, Old Arkovia to Cronley, Hives, Solael, Fort Haron for Nemesis, the two witches in Ugdenbog, all Krieg set Bosses and Fleshworks, ending with BoC.

All ultimate of course. And after 30 hours of doing this, I have not seen a single legendary that actually improves my character, and only 2 set pieces at all. I could build a house out of Wyrmscale Footguards, though.

The overall droprate is fine, I’d say, but finding the same items over and over again is a downer for sure.

If there was a way to get a specific item (something like 50 rare crafting mats for one item or whatever) at least I’d have something to look forward to.

The real kick in the groin was when the smith handed me the same item I had just destroyed for those rare materials to afford my random legendary.

By far hte greatest rewards in campaign come from BoC and Ancient Grove. You spend something to get in there but you get at least 2 legendaries per run, i’ve even had 5 max.

BoC is easy cause you get blood.

I don’t recommend these that you mentioned for farming with exception noted in red:
Warden (MI), Old Arkovia to Cronley(MI), Hives, Solael, Fort Haron for Nemesis (MI), the two witches in Ugdenbog(MI), all Krieg set Bosses (unless it’s for MI set) and Fleshworks (unless it’s for MI)

I believe you’re talking about the Stonefist Rebuke.

Due to not great equipment, Grove is actually somewhat hard for me to do. Cronley is for rings, Solael for pants (I consider even not-godly-rolled ones to be rather good, unless you have something really great in that slot, which I don’t) Krieg bosses are for set, Fleshworkd mainly for Theodin’s MI.

I know BoC to be the best one of the above, but I really like a change of scenery every now and then. Spending hours within the void is somewhat depressing;)

Farming is repetitive and boring unless you already have gear for a single good build and go to town on gladiator 150 (170 has same reward)for 1 week and you’ll have all the legendaries in the game.

But if you don’t…i think i could do 10 BoC runs before I started to hate the game.

But this was before AoM. Now I level my toon from 85 to 100 in BoC and my inventory is just too full of legendaries at the end. It;s way easier now and makes the repetitiveness bearable.

Never had problems with the overall drop rate of legendaries, expeciallly since AOM and recent patches.

On the other hand, sometimes this game can be a frustrating and irrational bitch about certain very specific drops that can only come from specific enemies, like Outcast Secret from Anesteria (my experience: almost 250 mot******ing runs without a single piece dropped), Covenant of The Three and similar stuff. Recently for example i was trying to get an Aetherial Vanguard Warrant and killed Aleksander almost 30 times with different characters without ever seeing one. And we all know it’s a very annoying guy to find.
I admit that there were times when i wanted to ragequit the game for this.

Yes, certain things about this (excellent) game are a real bitch.

Like I said, it’s not the rate of drops that’s frustrating me in campaign, it’s the lack of variance within those drops. Yesterday I demolished all my 15 Wyrmscale boots (sadly, this is not a made up number) while still not having a single set item for my character(s).
Gladiator 150 is my ultimate goal, though not for my current campaign farmer (ranged primal strike). However, getting there seems ways off at the moment.

@OP:
Grim Dawn is probably the on A-RPG I’ve played with the most generous drop chance of unique items without actually tweaking the drop chance properties on the game files.

Farm and grind please… If you are really that impatient and you want variance, rush a low maintenance Crucible farmer and join the band wagon. You can accumulate a decent collection of Mythicals after 2-3 days of pure Crucible farming.

You should have done this before they changed the Crucible format (release of AoM). Crucib was easier.

because the overall drop rate is vastly increased in AoM, lvl 84 legendary items will seem to drop like candy. That is because higher lvl 94 drops are less frequent.

Since there are less lvl 84 items than there are 94 and they have very high drop rate it’s only normal you see stonefists (got like 10) or whatever dropping all over the place.

The lack of variance is really just an illusion

After waiting months to finally get my hands on a mythical reforged chains of oleron belt, i find 2 within 30 hours: both below average but with the 1st being the best.

There are several legendaries that i’ve found like 20 times and others that took months to find, like the example above: that’s called RNG.

I think drop rates are in a really good place for legendary items. The problem is only diversity. I have only dropped two set amulets (runebinders and bloodragers) but i’ve had other legendary items drop 7 or 8 times. I really wish I had kept proper track of all the drop’s I’ve ever gotten because the number of duplicates is absurd. I know I’ve dropped the following items at least 4 times each and some up to 10 or 11:

Mythical Guillotine
Mythical Death’s Reach
Mythical Agony
Mythical Colossal Grasp
Mythical Earthshatter Treads
Mythical Greaves of Ill Omens
Mythical Hagarradian Enforcer
Mythical Golemborn Greaves
Mythical Stormtitan Treads
Stormbearers
Mark of Ulzuin
Mythical Aldanar’s Vanity
Mythical Bonescavenger’s Deathgrips
Mythical Riftwarped Grasp
Mythical Touch of the Everliving Grove
Mythical Brutallax
Mythical Butcher of Burrwitch
Mythical Crimson Spike
Mythical Devil’s Cage Hauberk
Mythical Fiendscale Jacket
Mythical Venomancer’s Raiment
Mythical Evoker of Elgoloth
Mythical Exonerator
Mythical Havoc
Mythical Golemborn Greaves
Mythical Hellforged Legplates
Mythical Nightshade’s Reach
Mythical Quillthrower of Dreeg
Mythical Silverbolt
Mythical Will of Bysmiel
Mythical Sovereign Ruby of Domination
Mythical Soulcatcher
Mythical Stonefist Rebuke
Mythical Untouchable
Mythical Venomspine Greaves
Mythical Voidsteel Gauntlets
Mythical Wendigomane Leggings
Mythical Wyrmscale Footguards
Venomskin Legwraps
Mythical Death Omen
Mythical Beacon of the Winter’s Veil
Amarastan Crusher
Mythical Signet of the Fallen
Bladetwister Signet
Mythical Mark of the Dreadblade
Mythical Mark of the Forbidden

If I made a list of items I’ve dropped at least twice it would more than double. In this list alone that’s 46 * 4 drops for a minimum of 184 legendaries.

If I do some quick math to make a lower bound of total drops: 46 * 2 = 92 + 184 = 276 mythical legendary drops. I feel comfortable setting an upper bound of 425 for the total number of mythical drops in my gameplay (not including blueprints or Krieg’s set) but I’ve dropped less than 200 unique items. There should be a way to farm specific item’s like krieg’s set.

Maybe the new gamplay mode “Shattering” could let you set your reward for completing it? Not the exact item perhaps but even if you could limit the pool of rewards to legendary amulets or chest pieces at least player’s would have some chance of actually finishing the god damn sets.

But…didn’t you just explain the lack of variance?:stuck_out_tongue:

Lack of lvl 84 legendary items?..maybe. I find they are enough

But it explains illusion of lacking not actual lack. they just have a really high drop rate cause most of them are mid tier but they help new players.

At lvl 100 in BoC I’m not getting 15x wyrmscale etc. I’m getting good high end gear that is in fact varied in it’s drop pattern

Off-topic: TBH the new drop rates are so high compared to the old I feel like i’m using a mod to increase drop rates sometimes
