really basic question about elite difficulty

really noob question

i killed logo-whatsit so now elite is available.

however i’m not exactly clear on when i actually want to enable it.

i still have the two expansions to work through and i think, but i’m not sure, that enabling elite starts your character over at act I. it seems like i want to finish the expansions first before enabling it.

Thanks !

Then do that. That message just tells you you have the option to start Elite, it’s not compulsory to do so. Play one or both of the expansions before moving on if you want or if you find them too dfficult you can stop and go to Elite then.

If you start Elite you will start the base game all over again, the same will happen with Ultimate difficulty. Remember however that with Forgotten Gods expansion you could do Act 1 in Elite and then do the FG Elite content if you want, then go back into GD Elite to finish that and then do AoM Elite. Or even do Elite Act 1 then drop back into Normal and do the expansions there.

There are several different ways to do it so choose whichever you want to play. Most of all enjoy.

I think if that’s your first play through is better to do all acts between swiching difficulties.Depends also on your level,I usually start elite between 62-66.Also on elite your upper row resistances are reduced by 25%,so you have to find gear to cover them.

Exactly what i wanted know.

Thanks a lot !

I forgot to mention. it’s not at all obvious that the base game will start over. I found that mentioned only once in the many posts i looked through, that’s why i wanted to check and make sure.

Not sure it’s something that needs mentioning. As far as I know in most ARPGs once you finish one difficulty and move on to the next you start back at the beginning. At least that’s the case for the older games like Sacred, Titan Quest, D2, etc. Maybe modern ones are different in this respect. :undecided:

This rerunning of the game on all difficulities is one of the things that a lot of players don’t enjoy since they believe the real game only starts when you hit Ultimate. So with Forgotten Gods there is now the option of skipping difficulties so you can start on either Elite or Ultimate with a merit token you can buy from a vendor in the ConClave of the Three on either Elite or Ultimate difficulty. It’s not something I’d advise trying until you’re more familiar with the game, but might be something you’d like to try later on. You can see how it works in this video of Zantai showing it off in a dev stream a few months ago (14 minutes in)
