Really good mastery combos for a 2H build?

I’d really like to make a character that can dominate with 2h weapons. With the expansion coming I was thinking Ritualist could be good, but I have minimal experience with the game. I thought I’d see what more experienced people thought.

has nothing to do with expansion but its a build that works for me

Primal strike(Shaman) is a good start when you are new, you can choose your second mastery later on based on what you feel more comfortable with

Fire Forcewave Tactician with Justicar Set.

Indeed, Ritualist would be good, but not as a 2-h savagery or primal strike build. It’s not that such a character would not be viable … it’s just not the best way to go with necro+shaman given the item support. If you play careful and understand the mechanics, of course, you can pretty much beat the game even with a melee warlock on Hardcore. Thus, if you just want to have fun, optimality should not concern you.

A 2h Ritualist, however, would work best as a summoner or a vitality/bleed cooldown caster (or a hybrid of both, of course).

Commando would work well too.

No doubt. It would have to be built a little bit differently, but the Fire synergy is amazing.

Uh, why? Demo is a much better choice than Inquisitor for that. Plus Mythical Justicar supports Commando even more by having pluses to Flame Touched and Temper.

But can i say how much i hate Mythical Justicar gloves? They now convert half of the physical to fire in Forcewave and Blitz. Physical Forcewave build who use Justicar set? Can’t use Mythical Justicar. I think this item is becoming my most hated item in the game.

On things like this, I think it boils down to preference on which masteries skills you like more as both combos can be done, though you are right that Demolitionist would overall be stronger for Fire damage than Inquisitor.

I think having Shard of the Eternal Flame on it’s own for Forcewave Fire conversion would have been enough really. Not sure why both the Handguards and the Shard do Physical to Fire for Forcewave and at different amounts.

I meant specifically for Fire Forcewave. Of course for everything else, it’s down to preference.

i facepalmed really hard when i saw that amulet. Having the gloves just give flat fire and flat physical to Forcewave and Blitz would have been enough. The physical side wouldn’t have been gimped and the fire side would still be viable.

I love it how you suggest exotics like Fire Forcewave while the player said himself he’s new to the game.

OP, can you clarify if you consider 2H ranged (rifles) or you want strictly melee?

Fire Forcewave is one of the most basic builds because of the amount of support it has. It’s about as basic as Lightning Elementalist and Physical Witchblade.

So i don’t know how it’s exotic in any way. I’d argue it’s one of the most beginner friendly build in the game.

I meant for Fire Forcewave as well - you can do Fire FW with the Justice set with both Commando, Tactician, probably other combos I can’t think of as well but Commando is going to be stronger.

Besides how fast or efficiently you kill things, another thing to consider is skill selection which is what i’m getting at - for example, there are people out there who can’t stand using Thermite Mines for combos like Ultos Elementalist so they go Conjurer instead because Curse of Frailty is easier to use even if Elementalist might be the better choice and they do fine.

I’m interested, go on

  1. Why convert to fire? You could convert around 60% of physical to fire if it’s 2H, not counting special gear. It’s much easier to build around physical rather than physical and fire, which pretty much results in damage loss.

  2. If Forcewave is such a beginner friendly build how come it’s so rarely spoken about, compared to Lightning Elementalist (which I don’t consider that good for beginners as well, but at least it’s more or less meta 2H build)?

  3. How’s the support outside of Justiciar set? Faction/blue pieces?

And I said exactly that. Fire synergy, skill points - everything suggests it’s going to be stronger. It’s my personal preference. I already built both Fire Forcewave Tactician and Commando, gonna play both tomorrow.

Never really cared about Forcewave outside of leveling character up or specific builds, so can’t comment on that.

your build work of tacticians struck a nerve, I really need a 2h smack some mobs around and new class, well I got to do it, so thanks

Because Justicar is fire based too? And there’s Sharzul’s Worldeater? Every build based around conversion from physical to something will always have damage loss because it’s nigh impossible to have 100% conversion with two handed.

Don’t know what kind of argument is this since it means nothing. I have several beginner friendly builds who are rarely talked about. Forcewave is also not a very popular skill to begin with.

Sharzul Worldeater is probably the best weapon choice for Fire Forcewave (i know you said faction/epic pieces). Massacre two handed axe is a pretty solid epic for it. You can also just easily stack fire gear. Even then Justicar set is enough, specially now that the Mythical is biased towards Fire.

Thanks. Keep in mind, though, that strongest builds around Tactician will probably be based around Pierce and Physical\Trauma, because of all the synergy.

Nevertheless, I enjoy this class and highly anticipated it, so took my time in Grimtools, entertaining myself. The more exotic builds, the better.

I’m gonna add onto this with bits I used while levelling my character that I remember:

-Chosen Crusher - This is what I used going into Elite. Easy to craft too.

-Massacre and Empowered Massacre as already mentioned are great.

-Obsidian War Cleaver - Good enough for Normal/Elite with even one decent affix (Searing, of Celerity, etc.). Just from the % casting speed and skill bonuses alone, I used a Chilled Axe of Celerity on a Fire build if that’s any indication because the % casting speed was so damn big. The skill modifier is going to make it even better.
