I have a Primal Strike Shaman, retaliation Warder, and Blademaster as my main characters, but they all feel slow (especially the first)! I’m not expecting PoE or Diablo-type speed, but I would like to play a build that doesn’t feel like it’s wallowing through molasses (I miss the speed adjustment option from Titan Quest). The Blademaster isn’t as bad as the others, but survivability isn’t so good either.
What builds are known for moving fast while having decent clears and good survivability?
On another note, did crate buff SS? I remember Steelflames 0sec SS guide and how he gave up on his character after crate nerfed the %cdr to flat. That build was one of the reasons what kept my interest in this game for so long, sadly I couldnt try it out before it was too late.
If you are playing a build without a “gap closer skill”, you´ll either have to get movement speed increase through devotions, gear or components, or just have to suck it up. :undecided:
This is Grim Dawn. Love it or leave it.
No offense, but after suffering through this silly thread, I just can´t take it any more.
Movement speed is fine in GD.
I got a savagery + totems shaman for example, and the build is awesome.
Yet slow.
Don´t care. Makes for relaxing gameplay, I try to adjust by pulling a lot of mobs whenever possible.
“Fast moving and clearing”, is such a thing even possible? Who knows ?!
Phantasmal Blades Spellbreaker comes to mind. Panetti´s Replicating Missile Spellbreaker also. Tinker around, tell us what you learn.
Sorry, but in GD, your movements speed is limited to 135%, no matter what build you use. AoE for most abilities is also very limited. Overall, it’s INTENDED that you have relatively slow clearspeed in GD, to make you feel you’re actually fighting enemies, and they fight back (not just oneshot whole screen in 0.5 sec and move on, as in PoE).
Primal Strike can be very strong ability to clear trash. But it requires strong endgame gear to release its full potential (full Ultos set, etc.) Without it, it’s pathetic in Ultimate.
You can Cadence 1-h+shield physical Witchblade/Commando. IT’s one of the strongest build there, very tanky, and at the same time, capable of dealing good damage. Great for Crucible.
You may also try poison WitchHunter, using Tainted Eruption proc and others. This proc has very large AoE and deals significant damage, so it can heave really spectacular clear speed (by GD standards). I should warn you, he isnt really tanky, though.
Or (as was said), SS cold-based SpellBreaker.
As others mentioned Commando, Witchblade, Witch Hunter etc and a charge ability either through components like Riftstone or Blitz, Shadow Strike to move through gaps as fast as possible.
What level did you get your main characters to? And are you wanting to do this in Ultimate or Elite (have you done Ultimate yet)?
Do you have equipment already or are you prepared to grind/farm forever to get perfect best in slot gear you see recommended in the top builds? Or do you want to be able to function with whatever you find playing the game, basically, not having top legendaries specific to a build?
Where do you feel like it needs to speed up (ie, trash mob clearing, or enemy heros/bosses)?
I ask because there are lots of things that really really fast and great in Normal/Elite. But I think most conversations tend to lean towards Ultimate and that’s a different story.
There’s a big difference between trash mob clearing and elite/hero/boss clearing with speed. Trash mobs can be taken down quickly with lots of builds. And others are really good at taking down single targets fast. It’s hard to have both in the same build without a lot of flexibility.
Poison/Vitality/Bleed builds that can spread the damage-over-time around quickly can clear mobs fast. It also can work nicely on elites/heroes/bosses. Pet mobs can also clear trash fast leaving a lot of room for single target skills for spiking key enemies/bosses quickly while the pets clear up trash or tank.

Thanks, I’ve never tried either of those combos. I might give Commando a go.
The Blademaster is in the late 60s, and the other characters are level 85. I’m only concerned with Ultimate, really.

I have some gear, but it’s probably going to involve farming for top tier stuff.

My PS Shaman is easily my best character, it just feels a bit slow when moving and also when fighting single enemies (around 21k dps with Vortex of Souls and 33k with Ultos’ Stormseeker).
