Before anyone says anything, let me first say going into this I am aware this is a janky build idea, but for flavors sake to stick as close to the X-men canon as possible, I am working on a character built around Gambit and the closest thing to it is Stun Jacks (his throwing cards). Gambit used a staff so eventually id like to find a good 2 hander for this build, which ill use an illusion on to make it appear as a staff.
So far in Veteran the build has been fun, despite weak range and low defenses. It has performed, however, as an excellent glass cannon so far, getting crits like crazy off of the Stun Jacks. Here is the Grimtools summary;
Fairly self explanatory, but the aim I have with this build is to not get too flashy. I want to limit as many projectiles as possible that do not appear to be things he throws. Grenado is too slow, bulky, and its explosion is too huge. Canister Bomb with the clusters feels nice here. Looking to possibly run Thermite Mines if there is a way to convert the damage to lightning as well, but thats about all I want to use for attacks.
I understand this build may not perform well, but it’s important for me that it behaves like gambit, who I imagine to be like a rogue style class of a character. He must move fast and have some evasive skills (disengage mobility skills). Other than that hes just a kiter that throw “cards” lol. Hey. What can I say. I enjoy this kind of thing. Not expecting him to be end game viable, mainly just for fun when playing multiplayer with mid level characters, but if the build turns out good, thats always a plus too.

Hell yeah, thats what I’m talking about! Fits perfect! btw, is stun jacks’ speed affected by attack speed or cast speed? I am under the impression its affected by cast speed.
Nice, good, makes sense- He really spews those things out quick. Wasnt sure if that was just the transmuter or if it was a combination of my gear/components. Makes sense that its both.
Im not sure yet which spear illusion. Needs to be minimalist in appearance, and wooden… Any suggestions?
I know theres no staffs, was hoping for a spear that looked rather plain but i think you may be right with the 2h mace idea. There are definitely some slim ones to choose from.
What I wonder about is any way to convert Thermite Mines damage to Lightning/Electrocute
Stormheart is awesome but unfortunately probably wont fit the flavor… That Korvan Storm halberd is looking pretty nice and ive been farming for a good one. Although admittedly, the loss of casting speed potential from 1 handers and off hands will be sorely missed.
Cindertouch is awesome i love those gloves. The cinderwinds are a bit too flashy and take away from the feel of throwing cards… Ill need to find some other way to get that damage conversion.
Here something I fooled around with https://www.grimtools.com/calc/DV9zj6PZ might not suite your style taste but 189% casting speed (depends on the roll of the items of course and you can crank up vindictive flame higher) there are also augments that gives casting speed as well as seal of annihilation in amulet. Plus if you also get of celerity on the axe you have sick casting speed
Just by looking at it, I see no fundamental reason why this would not “work”, well energy regen is kinda crap and there is basically only Ultos devo proc that has weapon damage so that you can life steal but otherwise … why not?
