% Reflect damage

How useful it is? im wondering if its useful to take that “Shield Wall” devotion along with my 36% reflect necklace, the 86% reflect sounds nice, but will it be useful?

From what I hear, retaliation is far more useful.

Where can i find a clear definition of retaliation ?

Reflected damage, as i found out my self a week a go or so, is still recieved, by what reflection means, it’s normal, absorbtion is absorbed, not recieved and not reflected.

So what does retaliation mean ?

Exactly what the definition means. When you are hit, you retaliate with a strike of your own. That damage number is based on the retaliation damage you have listed on your gear and skills.

So 100% Retaliation would mean when i get hit, i hit back with the same dmg i recieved ?

No. 100% retaliation damage, means that you add 100% more damage to your retaliation damage stat. It’s like seeing 100% fire damage, but works on your base retaliation damage.

If you take Reflect, you take Retaliation as well, especially if you build for a specific character build. They are almost synonymous.

Also, no, RET, unless utilized in specific areas, is slow and very clunky is this game… actually, you can say that about Reflect too. For example, RET doesn’t work on ranged and magic enemies, while Reflect seems to do very little damage to them.

Melee will fly like leaves in autumn, though, you can be sure about that.

so i guess, if im using a shield, i should take Shield Wall too

I build a retaliation warder the other day b/c I finally got all of the stoneguard set and had everything else for a good retal build lying around. Let me tell you, it’s boring af, I haven’t bothered fixing the warder yet but next time I log onto him I’m respeccing him back to phys/bleed, or really anything else other than retal. The only way I’d actually play a retaliation build would be if I had no other choice, or perhaps for going after a very specific ugly mofo who happens to really really dislike Mogdrogen…

well… but will the reflect be useful for other builds? something like a “support” stat, because 86% looks kinda much

86% is nothing. I have almost 300% reflect with all buffs up. It doesn’t do shit against ranged or magic.

at what lvl and what difficulty? im playing the normal one and my lvl is 48, so yeah, 86% is much for me

100th level, BiS equipment, Ultimate difficulty. You get the picture.

Reflect damage is worthless in Grim Dawn and never should have been included. The reason is mobs have astronomically high HP compared to the damage they can do, which is standard for an ARPG.

That’s why your highest damage dealt might be 500k but your highest damage taken might be 6k, probably less.

So no matter how high your reflect most mobs won’t even feel it. If they change it someday so that 1% reflect = 10% damage returned I still wouldn’t stack it. They should replace reflect with a stat that’s actually useful imo.

see? i assume that is safe to say that at my lvl 86 is indeed, much

Thanks for the detailed answer, i will stop considering it as an option

Wait, I’m legitimately confused. Why bother asking this question, when your level is so low? You can’t judge your build by your Veteran\Normal standards. Only when you achieve Ultimate, your build shines the most.
And, as was already established, Reflects sucks at high and even mid levels. Did you want to know just the current state of the build then? But again, the level is too low to judge anything, you simply take what you find at these levels.

because right now, im this lvl. no grinding, no running the same areas back and forth, just the simple enjoyment of the game, and i sure dont plan to complete the game 20times, so im just enjoying it the story

and just wanted to know if it would be useful to add reflection to the pool, thats it, even at lvl 2 you have to kill mobs SOMEHOW

Also most bosses have a non trivial amount of reflected damage reduction, making the stat even more worthless. If that was possible.

oh well, thats too bad… to simply hack n slash is kinda boresome after a while
