…so I can continue to help fund such an amazingly awesome team of people putting out a tremendously fun game that I can’t stop playing. Why can’t there be a continual gofundme page that peeps can drop dollars into for this team of original creators for the ARPG world? By original I mean original ideas that I haven’t seen used elsewhere for world / story / lore.
According to this article from August Crate has sufficient funds for the expansion and their next game - see the fourth last paragraph. I cannot say if they will eventually enable us to pre-order the expansion.
Well I guess I feel great about backing this game way back when the company and website first came up and eventually pre-orders came out.
I actually forgot about the game since it was a huge lul, until my friend mentioned a game that was like diablo and then I find out I could get the released version for free lol. Haven’t looked back on any other ARPG since.
Except for TQ anniversary edition that is evil grin
Would still love to continue to help fund a group of people and their excellent work if that ever becomes a thing. They deserve it for all their hard work and Bruno’s perseverance for getting this game off the ground by going outside his comfort zone with funding.
Very cool were getting a expansion but after seeing “We have another game planned that’s totally different from Grim Dawn” and being the hardcore fan i am of GD, it bums me out to know that maybe after this expansion, then that’s it for us?
I hope not, i hope to see in the future either another expansion or continued support of Grim Dawn, i doubt we will see a GD2 with server side tech but hey, a guy can dream-right? I’d love nothing more for these guys just to continue working on the game and create whatever else they want but also release new content for us huge fans of this ARPG.
I just want to see more and more of this world, there’s so much more that can be done with it, they hit the gold mine with this…it would be such a waste to just stop after this future expansion. I have zero problem with paying for DLC or whatever else they put out for Grim Dawn
I love the TQ setting of Greek mythology, so as long as thier new game is an hack and slash with “infinite” loot, I would be happy with a different game.
But a totally different type of game, does it mean it wont’ be an hack and slash ?
I hope they won’t do the same thing as RunicGame who did a great job with Torchlight 2 but are now working on an adventure game (Hob), I already know this kind of game only last a few hours before being bored.
The description of the Loyalist Edition on the BUY NOW! page states “First expansion when released.” This implies there can be more expansions - as long as there is a sufficient large audience.
We have been speculating about their new project in New Crate games. My thinking is, that they want to branch out, so that they have multiple revenue streams. Any new project should not directly compete with GD and its expansion(s). A different game will also enable them to connect to new customers, and some of them might take a liking in GD then, too.
Chances are I would prefer a GD2 over some other game. I know I line ARPGs and GD, as do others, so Crate should have a built in audience for a GD2.
Anything else and I have to be convinced first, kinda like Runic with their break from ARPGs after TL2 (the jury is still out on that, but I probably would be more interested in TL3).
If they go a different route, I hope they again do a Kickstarter to gauge interest.
Giving us a Grim Dawn 2 with server side capabilities would change everything for Crate and the fanbase.
They’re already competitors to games like PoE and D3 but imagine if we had actual server side hackfree (for the most part) and a actual trade market, oh would it be amazing. If people wanna hack/mod they have their offline games to do so also.
GD2 with online server side tech should and hopefully is in the future, it would do huge numbers and i can see them probably being able to fund it through future Grim Dawn purchases and the expansion. It will show them that there is a audience and a fanbase for this game to take that “next step” which i’m sure they already can see that now.
I know it’ll cost money but hell, i’d even kick out more money to kickstart GD2 just as a bit of a boost to get them over the hill if need be and i’m pretty sure a lot of other people would also, look at what we did for their first kickstarter…now we know the quality and passion they have for this game, people would come in droves to support it.
And like you guys said…this reminds me of the Runegames torchlight 2 deal where they went and made this silly puzzle looking indy game when they could of very well could of built off of TL2…i just don’t wanna see anything else, no offense…lol…that’s just the fanboy in me.
I’m wondering why an Online-only mode would be a game-changer for Crate? I know that a lot of gamers like to play ARPGs server-side ala Battle.net in order to avoid cheating and do their ladders and all, but anyone who wanted to buy Grim Dawn already bought it. It seems to me having an online server mode wouldn’t exactly entice new people into buying?

There is really no need to bring this topic up again when there have been numerous threads on the subject, many with replies from us.
We are aware that some players wish for the game to have closed servers, and in a perfect world that would be the case.
It has always comes down to the initial cost of retrofitting the entire engine to support it, future maintenance costs of such a service and (which is frequently not considered by players) the cost of opportunity (aka the time we spend on this is time we cannot spend on other things such as expansion(s) or future products).
The fact is, about 10% of ARPG players even touch MP (this data is consistent throughout history of ARPGs and remains consistent with Grim Dawn). Just because people have to go online (as with Diablo 3 and Path of Exile) to play does not automatically make them want to share that experience with others.
In the end though, for us, it falls to finances and focusing our resources where they best benefit our audience.
I also understand that with all that money involved into the server side of things that it really might not be worth it. But i also look at diablo 2’s battle.net, damn that was popular and so much fun so i might be looking at this with rose-tinted glasses with the trading and making friends aspect. It’s all good though, the money saved from servers could go into who knows how many free content patches so i’m all good with no server side stuff.
It’s a pipedream, i know but a man can wish… but anyways, i’ll be happy with continued free content patches and even paid DLC, i’m willing to do anything to help the Crate team keep Grim Dawn going, but i am scared about this “new game” in planning because i just keep thinking of a Runic Games situation. No offense but i really don’t care… i want to see all resources and time allocated to Grim Dawn but that’s because i think it’s my favorite ARPG since D2:LOD. And i’m selfish… i want to see more more more of this world of Cairn, this game is so packed with lore that it could go on for a good time.
Even if we will not like their second game or have no time to play it next to GD, we will benefit of Crate branching out. Assuming it will win over its audience, this should further strengthen their position in the market and secure their financial independance. And from a creative aspect the Crate staff members might benefit from having the option to switch between projects.
