Removed field not removed

I had two fields next to each other. I decided that I wanted to see if it was more efficient to have one larger field instead of two. I removed one of the fields and tried to extend the field that was left. I noticed that this did not work as a large part of the former field was marked with red squares (see screen shot). I also noticed that workers came back to the field I had removed and continued to work on it. There is no field to remove, and I am not allowed to extend the adjesent field over the old field.

I did the same manouver on other fields and it worked fine on all other fields except this one.

This is what it looks like when I try to extend the field adjesent to the removed field. (You can also see what looks like shadows of the original fields that I removed and extended in other areas of the picture. The red part that will not accept a new field is also a ‘shadow’ of an old field.)
