Got game through Steam. The game is unstable and crashes / give blue screen of death before even loading up a map. v0.7.2
I would say to follow the standard verify game files and update drivers, but a game triggering a blue screen of death is a symptom of deeper issues that you may want to investigate further as you may have hardware or software problems that need addressing as well.
All drivers are up-to-date - that was the first thing I checked. Then I ran a few other games to make sure it wasn’t a general system issue that had just cropped up. All other games I tried seem to run fine.
I’ve now verified the game files but still no dice. Still crashes but I haven’t seen any more blue screens.
My PC build is nearly 4 years old now (Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3.6Ghz, 16GB RAM, Vega 56) but should meet recommended specs. I haven’t had any hardware problems or crashes with other games. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a blue screen on this machine before today - and with this game I saw 2 in 5 minutes.
The furthest I’ve gotten in the game is placing my town centre and then the game bugs out. When it does that I get a popup with a green progress bar (which fills up in a second or so). The popup has the FF logo with a red exclamation mark in the top left corner and is called “Farthest Frontier - Unity 2021.1.15f1_0791816cff8c”.
I’m going to call it a night now and see if I can make this game work tomorrow. Any hints or tips would be appreciated.
So again, a BSOD is concerning outside of the parameters of the game as that’s like a symptom of another problem, sometimes it can be as simple as a firmware update.
If you are getting the Unity crash, then you should have a Crash Log. These can be found in:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp
This folder may be set to hidden by default in your folder options, so make sure to enable hidden items. Inside this directory, you will find a folder called Crash_Date_Bunch of Numbers (ex. Crash_2022-08-02_171459771.

Attached is the crash report for my latest crash. Let me know if you need anything else.
Unfortunatly I have the exact same problem, but also with a few other games like Mini Highways. Other games like Anno 1800 from uPlay run fine.
Looking at the error from Dundermoose, mine looks similar.
Currently experiencing BSOD as well. One during my first load into the map and the second a short time after starting a new game. Both happened within 40 minutes. All drivers are up to date
Glad I’m not the only one who is suffering from this.
Zantai, any thoughts on my crash report? Is this a game bug (and if so what is the fix time) or does it look like a problem with my PC?
Hey Dundermoose,
Sorry to hear you’re having crashes. Looking at your crash report, it’s hard to tell specifically what’s happening. It does indicate it’s crashing in atidxx64.dll which usually indicates some kind of graphics driver issue. Have you for sure updated your graphics drivers? Also, it might be worth trying to change some of the video settings in Farthest Frontier → Settings → Video. You might want to try enabling/disabling Depth of Field, V-Sync, and try capping Refresh Rate to like 60Hz. Some combination of these settings may change your PC’s behavior.
Not super positive that’s going that help you, but it’s worth a shot.
I’ve tried tweaking every video setting. No difference. I mean, sometimes it even crashes before I can open the settings menu.
I verified the game files via Steam. No difference.
I did clean install of latest graphics drivers using DDU. No difference.
I did a clean install of latest graphics drivers using DDU without installing Adrenaline Software. No difference.
I disabled all Steam overlays. No difference.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. No difference.
All in all I’ve got nearly 2 hours in this game (according to Steam) but only about 2 minutes of game time becasue all of that time has been messing with settings and waiting for maps to load - only for the game to crash.
I’ve had no issues with any other game so it seems to be a FF specific problem which makes this game unplayable for me. So I’m going to have to uninstall and get a refund through Steam before I hit the 2 hours of “play” mark. I’ve never refunded a game before. I suppose there’s always a first time.
Update from my end: I fixed it!
Using this thread here i manually set my CPU (Ryzen 5 3600) to max out at 3600mhz where the default would make the cpu overclock up to 4200. I’m now in the main menu without a crahs while typing where before the game wouldnt even load the menu.
Thanks for sharing. I also have a Ryzen 5 3600 but my system runs fine with all other games apart from FF (though I don’t have any Unity games). My CPU runs at 3.6Ghz cos I don’t have PBO enabled. So unfortunately I doubt I have the same problem.
Hey PB_Powell!
I also have a ryzen 5 3600 and have the same problem of crashes in the start menu. How did you limit your CPU speed to 3.6? I’m a noob when it comes to things like this so please talk to me like I’m a 5 year old.
Thanks in advance
I’m getting similar issues. All drivers updated and game files verified. No issues with any other program on my system. Aorus B550 Elite V2, Ryzen 5900x CPU, 64Gb 3600Mhz RAM, 6800xt GPU, 2x 1Tb NVME’s - all on custom loop cooling.
This is happening once or twice each startup of the game; but then it’s running fine for hours after that
I downloaded Ryzen Master from AMD website, its a program that allows you to change the settings of your cpu. I changed my CPU to a max of 3600 with the advanced settings. It might take some fiddling with the program, but with some help from YouTube you should be able to make it work
I am having the same issue. No CPU or RAM overclocking. I just upgraded my entire PC from a 6th gen Intel to a 11th gen, got a new GeForce RTX 3060i, SSD drive, the computer flies and the game looks great but I can’t play for more than five minutes…
