Retaliation Warder Leveling Guide and Endgame setup (rank 1 build) 1.2.1.6

you can try use the pvp medal if your base dps is super low, it reduces enemy healing Brawler's Distinction - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database , drops here Grim Dawn World Map

Thanks, looking I think one of the issues is that my DA is too high for a Rta build. I’ll tweak things a bit and farm up the dawnguard set.

I’ve hit 100 so his will be my last post on the guide. To sum up a very good and easy to follow guide, followed it all the way to 100.

Found the build to be very robust, haven’t died once, and forgiving. Can facetank most enemies but is really frustrating when fighting bosses that heal or totems when there is a healer in the group, basically had to smack one of Dravis minions halfway across the map to be able to kill them as the other one kept healing. Was farming a totem in Asterkarn and Rathrathar was there, Kuba decided to put in an appearance at the same time but I was able to kite both of them round the map and kill them but it took a while. I could have run away but wanted to try. To sum up slow, steady, occasionally frustrating but almost invincible is how I found the levelling experience.

Got the Dawnbreaker set including axe after farming totems for hours and transmuting, head blue print dropped (got lucky), so I’m going to switch to the Champion of Light Warder and finish up FG.

Finally, many thanks RSnoomak for putting this guide together!

Thanks mate , glad the guide work out for you , when you switch to Champion of the light feels much smoother than the leveling , just leveling as Rata is rough

Was an amazing lvling build and it has only had a couple times I noticed my health drop to any dangerous level, at least what I consider dangerous, but dang, the gear is not dropping LOL. I had the shield and amulet of the Dawnbreaker set drop, but that is it of the 2 sets I’ve been watching for. I keep thinking of trying SR25-26 but kind of afraid LOL

Well nothing to be afraid of if you are at SC . HC unfortunately you have to be sure you are surviving at SR

Yeah, and I am playing HC =) For the most part I have your budget gear for lvl 100 but I have swapped in Dawn Breaker shield and neck piece. All my resists are 50% beyond max. I guess I will just look up a good totem farming guide and hit them for awhile and see if i get lucky LOL

There is one totem route in the farming session playlist

Thank you for an incredible, detailed guide.

Could you suggest a fast moving build that can easily level to 70 and farm appropriate gear?

I enjoy ret mechanic much more than Forcewave. And the build overall has the Hammerdin vibes for me which is a special place in my heart. Hammerdin and a TPMF Sorc for gear runs.

Even though I unlocked Normal and Elite, with the other character, it is nice to relax and do quests.
But it is indeed very slow going at 40ish level.

But is there a good, continuous, moving, fast, damage oriented build that can get me to 70s?

Forcewave was very painful with the wait between the skill. And if you run on Veteran, you can definitely die in a couple places. And bosses take years. So I do not recommend anyone using Veteran. Or Forcewave.

I did make a dual gun sorcerer before I realized it is not a great idea. And it moves fast. I think through about SR10 at 63. But it’s a dead end.

Just to clarify. I mean level to 70 and farm, for the Dawnbreaker build.

I did see three suggested variants for a build in the list of fast leveling, but they were nowhere near in detail and quality, I do not know yet how to access attribute point reset and how easy that is, and how do those builds actually play. But if you think one of those is the way to go, I can pivot.

Fastest for Warder without hurting the endgame build too much will be Primal strike . I wouldn’t farm SR in Normal cause is pointless ( Normal and Elite SR were nerfed to the ground ) . Still any change to the build needs proper devotion map as well cause switching to two hander needs Kraken etc

Okay, thank you! It is getting better as I really enjoy what this is becoming. Slowly cleansing my palate after the Forcewave.

Your build is amazing. And instructions.

I will look for Primal Strike build that can be converted the easiest.

Well rata leveling is rough to be fair ,it gets better at some point but Is couple hours slower , I just like how chill it is and I need break from reactive playstyles once in a while

Yes, I think I just like high movement/traversal, which is not very fast in GD overall. And the visceral feedback, which was very jerky with Forcewave. With Retaliation it is actually really nice. Consistent and smooth.

Yes , zooming is not very common in Grim Dawn some Nightblades setups can zoom like RoS Blademaster

I wasn’t go to reply again but I just wanted to comment on the Champion of the Light Warder. It’s really smooth, used it to farm up the Krieg, Dark One and Lokarr sets.

Not been in the Lokarr area of the game before, first time I went in there was edge of reality area Aleksander Nemesis appeared, he went down, killed the ascendants, then went and killed Lokarr. Was only then I realised I didn’t even have the wind devils up. Hadn’t activated them as they kept killing the blue guy!

I love that spec, GSA did amazing job on that one being that strong with epic set is insane , also good fantasy as well

I was going to ask, how does this build do the mob we need to guide down to the pentacle spot in Malmouth in order to get to the Lokarr area? From what I remember, a ret build kills him almost instantly LOL

Keep distance , you can unsunmon the wind devils as well and don’t cast vines etc so he can just follows you aggro range is quite high so ( you can also spam pet attack to navigate Devils if you don’t want to resummon them )

I did have a few issues with this and so I just
equipped the Krieg set I farmed which toned down the reta, didn’t want to gimp myself too much as the nemesis kept spawning. Keep a reasonable distance and clear out as many mobs beforehand and you should be ok.
