Love this idea! I personally think that Runewords were a great addition to Diablo II and definitely prolonged the longevity of the game.
If done correctly, one could re-design most armor types to have a socket feature meaning that even base armor drops could be useful! It would be awesome to mouse over torso armor and see 3 sockets with awesome looking, graphically updated runes and the consequent runeword!

I don’t think it is possible to add more than one slot for components.
Why do the game dev limit us this much?
I think it might be possible to create Runes in the form of components or augments, but I’m not really sure… good idea, though.
EDIT: I’ve just remembered how Runes worked… :eek:
Unfortunately, the game engine probably won’t support it, so the only way it could work is if it worked like Demasked said.
Couldn’t you just use crafting to combine multiple components into a “Runeword” component?

Yeah, this would work and is probably a good idea since no Cube exists in GD.
Not that I know of, they don’t have a itemset parameter last I checked.

Well, in theory, maybe, but IF it worked they wouldn’t be able to display what set bonuses you’d get and it’d be purely behind the scenes.

Not sure, hard for us to tell. I would think stacking components might cause issues for sets so… could be both.
Because the game’s template based, meaning that there’s code backing up every template to take and do something with all the parameters one can set in the records, and because that code isn’t available for us to modify. You could say everything is an engine limitation: The engine is limited to such a template based system, sadly.
I too wish there was a more extensive API one could hook into, exposing all the interesting parameters, but alas…
Runewords are the best thing from the Diablo 2 Expansion and it is THE one thing still missing from Grim Dawn.
Wish the devs would make something like rune words, would greatly improve an already great game in Grim Dawn.
I havnt played D2, I know…, I should be ashamed of myself…
so I just read some stuff about it and it would be possible to at least have that itemization to it, obviously not socketing into an item or number of sockets, but in the end a similar result.
so the first simple idea:
SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
well Grim Dawn is a close second so don’t be to sad about missing it.
Your ideas are great, especially like the idea of using white items when loaded or “socketed” in the right order, would give us Runewords almost exactly the same way.
