I’m a noob at this… just level 7… so I’m questing north of Devil’s Crossing, picking up scrap for Barnabas. Not having found any quicksave button in the instructions, I assumed my progress would be saved automatically, but after I took a break my character had moved back to DC and there were mobs to clear between there and my last location.
Is there a way to do a manual save in this game, or at least a way to know when one’s progress has been auto-saved so it’s safe to exit?
Your progress is saved, that is, your level and items etc are. You will start in DC, but can use the riftgates to travel and monsters will always respawn. As they should in an ARPG…
It is always save to exit, the game saves upon exiting. A good time to exit is after reaching a new riftgate (and clearing the area between the last and this gate, or at least a section of it that you then can stay away from when you resume)
There is no saving in the way you are thinking about it.
You advance by finding new riftgates and new towns. When you start a new session you will begin in whichever of Devils’ Crossing, Homestead, or Fort Ikon you have visited most recently. You then use the riftgates to go where you want to.
If you want to stop for a while, you can just pause the game and minimize it (ALT-TAB). Then come back when you want to play again. Sleep or Hibernate, rather than Shut Down, if you need to power down your computer.
