Scorpion sting devotion question and other generally inaccurate stat/skill descriptions.

The skill is described as firing 6 projectiles when it procs, but I see what appears to be a circular area of spikes that pop out of the ground…almost exactly like ground slam. I like this game but the reason I am mentioning this apparently inaccurate description is that many of the skills seems to have confusing or inaccurate descriptions that make figuring out what items or skills to use tricky. Kinda ruins the game in my opinion when you cannot trust the info as it is presented. I have many weapons for instance which list large damage increases in the item comparison window, but when actually equipped result in pretty large damage DECREASES.

Shepherds Call says it can be attached to primal strike, but it seemingly never procs. In fact I have only ever gotten it to go off when attached to an item ability (slam). I’ve tried vines, consumption etc…Nothing seems to indicate that it went off. Yet it has leveled up to 11. Very frustrating!

Sure you’re aware of when it goes off? I can bind my Shepherd’s Call to vines and sigil both and it seems to go off every time.

It’s easy to test on the target dummies (NW of Barnabas in Devil’s Crossing). Link devotion, cast spell, look for tiny star buff to appear.

DPS only shows you the damage of your left mouse click button with skill macro.

It doesn’t take into account every other spell/proc/ability. It takes the weapon damage, all of your stats that affect that weapon damage and that’s it.

So, yes, that one can be misleading for new players.

As for Devotion procs, some that last a couple seconds appear as a small blue star on the bottom left with your other buffs, and can be hard to notice, yes. Other offensive procs just fire off, and you get no queue other than the visual. However, if you’re in melee range I believe your projectiles just shotgun into the npc too quickly for you to see.

While not misleading, it can definitely be annoying/confusing. I definitely would like to see some sort of interface change or option where the ability could perhaps pop up on the screen when it procs and then fade out, like rep gains when you kill a boss or when a devotion skill levels up.

Those “spikes” are projectiles, actually. They just have kinda wierd display art. It’s not a true circular AoE ability - it just fires 6 projectiles at short distance in 360 degrees angle from you. Sometimes, enemies that are in the “gap” between projectiles, are NOT hit.

Some constellation procs indeed dont work with certain abilities. It’s a bug, obviously.
As for Shepherd’s Call - i tried to link it to Savagery & Feral Hunger, and it procs fine.

You’re right, description is often innacurate. Yes, DPS/damage info cant be trusted, but it’s same for all games (besides ones with very simple mechanics). It’s way too hard to implement DPS comparison, that will always be accurate. Not to mention resist reductions, that make a huge DPS difference actually. Also critical strike and procs, sometimes.

Since you mentioned Shephard’s Call and Scorpion Sting, would I be too far off to assume you’re taking about a summoning build? If that’s the case, and the damage you’re talking about refers to your pets, then make sure you’re only looking at pet damage and not the weapon damage of the weapon.

If I’m totally off and you’re doing some kind of hybrid, then damage type may be playing a role in this.

Don’t forget to hold Control when comparing weapons with augments and components inside. Holding Control will disable the component and augment damages to list a closer comparison. You also have to pay attention to the fact that not every weapon is flat physical damage. Some are pure elemental damage and some are split.

For now, don’t worry so much about the fine-tuned aspects of the game and just have fun. Your first few builds are going to fail regardless but that’s how every game works - you need to learn the game before you can perfect the game and you won’t learn unless you either do hours of research before playing or you just figure things out on your own as you go.

I was very surprised at the thoughtful comments. So often replies tend to range from helpful to rude that it was a breath of fresh air to get polite input from everyone!

I am really liking just doing straight primal strike, but I miss having a buddy with me (aka my pet). Once I had maxed primal strike I was looking at ways to further increase my safety and clear speed. I eventually made a combo build with demolitionist (and since I have 2 shamans I made a combo with occulist for comparison).

Is the shepards call icon a little black square that appears under the pet bar? I am playing on a Razer blade and am forced to use a very high resolution for the game to work properly…which makes the icons quite small.

I did not know about holding control for comparing items. Thanks for the tip!

Sheppard’s call appears above your character Health bar. It is a circle with a kind of white star in the middle. If you use pets and pet procs, there are a few that look the same.

When it procs, hover your mouse over it, and it will tell you which proc it is.

Well I don’t know if you play with sound or not, however, when Sheppard’s Call procs you hear a bestial roar or snarling. Unless they changed it…been a long while since I played a Pet Conjurer.

All Constellation procs share the same icon - white “+” star. And since it’s passive, it has round icon (square icons are for active skills).

Thanks everyone! I kept watching for the icon under the pet. I now see it occurring quite frequently over my character bar.
