Shadow Warrior 2 - It's Awesome!

I play Shadow Warrior for a bit, and I would have to say, this game is the bloody – wait for it

BLOODY AWESOME!!!

If you liked the original, then this is a very good game to get. The game is sort of like borderlands, but I think it’s a lot better. Originally I had misgivings about it being a borderlands clone, but after playing a while, I’ve actually really enjoyed the game immensely.

You get base weapons which you can upgrade, each weapon has three upgrade slots, using upgrade stones, also you can upgrade armour slots and power slots. There are also perks which you can unlock when you have enough skill points. Overall you can really upgrade a fair amount, and using melee weapons is also as fun as always. As there are different weapons to use. From the katana, to pistols, shotguns, submachineguns and assault rifles and different melee weapons.

Overall I have enjoyed playing this game, I would highly recommend it if you enjoyed the 2013 version. I would easily give it 9/10. Yes the game also supports four players, so far I just play single player and I would say the balance seems spot on, granted that I have only done a few missions so far.

Whilst being a fairly disappointing year in general, I would say Shadow Warrior 2 is a must buy and is loads of fun. So who wants some Wang?

I may update this as I play along, but so far I really have enjoyed it. Oh yes optimisation, it’s really good, and you get a lot of graphics options as well, all in all, a well put together game.

So there’s only three weapons which you can only upgrade? I watched someone stream an early copy of this game and it looked good, but I’m not sold if it’s supposed to be a Borderlands clone, but only gives you three different weapons.

There are suppose to be about 70 base weapons in the game, each weapon has 3 upgrade slots, you can add and remove upgrade stones as needed.

so plenty of choice if you want to be range or up close and personal.

I would say it still very much like the original shadow warrior but more to it. there are also perks to unlock, new skills or abilities that you can use or upgrade.

I would say this is an awesome game, so yeah, more then 3 weapons, perhaps you uncfused that with the upgrade slots that I mentioned?

so far, I got, a katana, 2 pistols, a rocket launcher, duel wielded curved blades, a submachine gun, but plenty more to find. once you find a few stones, you can easy add elemental damage, or increase crit chance, or raise the base damage. I love melee, its loads of fun destroying stuff, and there are plenty of stuff to destroy.

in a review they said that there are 70 weapons or more, with different perks, add to that a lot of chstomization flexibility with the 3 slots, for which the components are reusable

It looks like they fucked it up, making the game more like borderland with dps and weapon upgrades like a arpg game, and less like the first game where every weapon was balanced around its base damage like normal shooters. Shame

had a related concern, ragnar, after watching the first let’s plays - and then buying it anyway. but there’s no steep leveling curve, a (seemingly) higher end upgrade for medal-slot is +30% gun damage, +50% mana cost, that’s it (more specialization than power creep, later guns don’t seem to have better dps but special functionality). it’s certainly nowhere near the crazy curve of borderlands 2 where your gun was basically useless after one level-up. plus the 3 weapon mods aren’t fixed or something, you can freely slot in and out.

but all the let’s players i’d seen chose hard difficulty where enemies took a little too long to whittle down for my taste. as far as i can tell singleplayer normal difficulty feels mostly like the first game. in higher difficulties and multiplayer the enemies become more bullet-spongy. personally i was lucky to find a damage mod with like +40% damage for double ammo cost so i basically two-shot the second miniboss with my shotgun.

Guns are fine in normal difficulty, I don’t think they messed up too badly, both range and melee both have their place. I also love the chainsaw, that is one badass weapon, and I really wish that ID didn’t nerf the chainsaw in Doom, and make it limited use, as the chainsaw in Shadow warrior is just awesome.

Also later on, you unlock crafting, you can can upgrade 3 gems of the rarity for 1 of the next tier. So far I am really enjoying the game. Personally I got tired of BL and how messed up the balance that was, especailly in higher difficulties.

I think I will get this game at the beginning of the next month.

It looks like pure fun.

Loved the first Shadow Warrior. Looking forward to the second, but don’t want to spend the money since all my playtime has been on GD lately…

Loved the originals from 97
the one from 2013 was ok
this one feels fast and fun so far

Completed normal, replaying hard with everything unlocked. Monsters are tougher, but my weapons help. The ending is a bit disappointing mind, but apart from that, its still an awesome game. I found 50 of the 70 weapons, so still some weapons to find. overall, its a good game if you like SW in general.

word of warning though, the people i’m playing with, currently we’re having big problems with coop. a bit too much crashing, loss of connection, missing loot drops, lag, lag spikes and resulting teleporting or serious fps drops and what we call the endless loop of dying.

WTF Is… - Shadow Warrior 2?

He pretty much confirmed my fears with the game, and what they did with it.

Well according to the game I’m about 40% in content wise and getting bored. Already noticed that the battles are often the very same. Even against elites which are the exact same copy of the boss in the tutorial. Beat it down to x health, it’ll shield up and spawn mobs that you kill before destroying the elite.

Maps are often too similar and combined with the opponents I often have the feeling of “been here, done that” for 20 times already. Spending a shit ton of time trying to explore the maps for all chests and what not gets tedious very quickly as well.

The loot/upgrade management is just horrible. There is so much trash and you waste so much time in menu’s instead of fighting…

I’ve gotten to the point of just running through the maps straight to the objective, pick it up and move on. Just to get the game over with.

I completed the game, I think I will downgrade what I said, it is a good game, but yes, the loot system is very under whelming and pretty crappy, even crafting is too random and doesn’t always give you a better item.

and while the maps are tiled and random to an extent, it doesn’t feel that random to me. also, I got the most powerful sword in the game, you can clearly do a lot of damage it, and makes guns a bit worthless.

Another game, another disappointment. Still I had my fun worth.

Edit
could a mod or admin please change the topic title?

Shadow Warrior 2 - not as awesome as I hoped it would be

swords, even t he best, at higher difficulties…is that even worth while or will you die too often?

The second to last sword you get, is the best sword in the game, as it has unlimited range attack, and can hit for a lot of damage.

otherwise, miniguns and shotguns are pretty good. can’t remember the sword name,. but you get it late. I nearly completed hard using that sword. some people on the steam forums says that adding crit gems to it makes it even more powerful and can breeze through insane difficulty.

yah can understand the crit% gem idea. For now I skipped the sword and switched to shotgun with cold gems + hp leech + damage vs superior/elite oppnents. On top of that a skeletor rub machine decked out with electricity stuff. Those weapons get me through most things at the moment.

I did notice that if you get all chests in the earlier side missions you don’t find any chests with side missions that happen to occur in the same area of the map. Maps don’t only seem to be similar, but they actually are?

I do enjoy the bit with the cards trying to get your own “build” going. Got the cards for cold and lightning damage boosted. That way those elemental gems do even more damage on the weapons used. Got cards that increase HP and Ammo drop% and I can basically can just keep going and build up a decent enough killing pace now. I get where TB is coming from how resistances and min-macing them makes battles dull. But really with my shotgun as main and Skeletor as secondary…and both maxed in different elements…opponents “melt”. Especially when the elemental effects stun or DoT opponents…just requires investing some points in the proper elemental bonus cards too make that build work more efficient.

The gems are getting more powerful as well. Instead of 1% damage increase it is now 9-11% for example. But yeah…getting too many whites still and not enough “magical” with more properties.

Got around 40weapons unlocked thusfar. Bought 5 or 6 from the shop, rest from quest rewards and a fair amount as drops. Saw a mini gun in store i couldn’t buy though :frowning:

The mingun from the shop is pretty average, there is better, but the miniguns and the shotguns in general are pretty good. at least until you get the sword I mentioned near the end. nothing really beats that.

the gem system is hit and miss, I find the gems from the shop not that great, a lot better from drops, but crafting is a waste of time and money. nopt unless they plan of giving crafting a buff.

edit

even though there are 70 weapons in the game, (or there abouts) there is little incentive to collect them all.

my personal fav weapons are
best sword in the game
mingun
shotgun
chainsaw

other weapon types like bows, nailguns, assault rifles, arent really worth it. The thing is, in SW, they made the sword the best weapon type, in SW 2, that is still the case, you can chew through ammo like a rate of knots, and while there are perks to increase the amount of ammo of a certain type that you can hold, (heavy ammo pouch, medium ammo pouch, explosive ammo pouch, etc. but with enemies on higher difficulties being bullet sponges, then most weapons become useless. so getting all those weapons also becomes pointless, unless they are the best of each category, (apart from pistols and bows. (and assault rifles)

I have 5 weapons missing, but I see no reason to find them, as I wont be using them even if I do.

so really, there is little point in having 70 weapons, when 90% are useless and not useful. They could have been, but enemies end up surrounding you, or being bullet sponges, that most weapons arent suited for the job, (especially pistols and bows)

just found CrimSwords and turning it into toxic weapons. just because I got lots of chill and lightning stuff going as is. Just destroying everything with the shotgun mainly. But when you press Z for that shadow mode its great. enjoying the card upgrade system to get significant bonusses. they have immediate effects that are noticable.
