Shaman + what?

Hey guys, i’ve been away for a very long time and i just started playing again with a shaman. Just wanted to ask what’s a good secondary class? I was thinking either solider or demo, but not sure. I see that shamans have good bonuses with 2h melee weapons so im not sure if either of those would work well with it… i have previously played with a commando so i kind of remember the class…

Any Mastery can be very good with Shaman. Archon (Shaman + Oathkeeper) is noticeably lower in rankings though than the rest so you might skip it (not saying that it cannot be made). Better think what damage type / skills / archetype would you like to play and then a 2nd mastery can be suggested.

What tqFan said. All of them are good in some way or another but each one is more suited to different damage types, skills or playstyles. We’d need to know what you want to do with your character before making any concrete suggestions.

Id either want to go full damage (melee) or some sort of decent damage and decent defense combo. Using 2h melee weapon doesnt bother me. Im level 16 now, been only adding points to the shaman tree, and the attribute points 1+1 for phys and cunn

All of them can be made to be decent at damage and defense (that is ideally what a successful character should do).

Let me ask you some questions to be more specific - are you looking to play a melee, ranged, caster or summoner kind of character? How about dual-wield, sword and shield or 2-handed? Do any skills in Shaman in particular look interesting to you? In terms of damage types, is there a particular one that you tend towards? Shaman without any fancy items works great for Lightning, Bleed or Vitality to give you an idea.

If you’re unsure right now, it might be best to just start playing around with some of the skills to see what they’re like.

Every damage-dealing skill in Shaman is viable as a main damage dealer by end game except for Devouring Swarm which still gets used but in more of a supportive role so you don’t have a lot to fear if you get attached to something.

My favorite class to combine with Shaman is Soldier. A Warder is a terror on the battlefield, and just feels bad ass. I dont know about now though- my version of the game is not up to date and retaliation got hit with a lot of nerfs this past patch… but still. I love Warder, even if just for the mad HP Regen.
