The Guardian boss is also trying to help by pointing at the portal.
I did a session of ~5 SR runs, in one of the runs I returned to this boss room. The portal to the reward room was just sitting there, waiting for me.
(Maybe related, maybe not: Ironically the next actual chunk was the fake reward room, where chests summon monsters…)
