Shield in a Caster Build for Crucible?

I’m a relative newbie in that I haven’t beaten Elite yet. (I beat Veteran and then stop.) At the moment, I have a Witch Blade focused on the physical side of Cadence and Curse of Frailty. I discovered that a Witch Hunter’s mix of Veil of Shadow and Curse of Frailty might be interesting as a poison caster.

I have read that casters lean on the squishy side, especially for Crucible. Besides all the defensive stuff done in a build, would specializing in a shield help much?

That was just an example. Witch hunter can do it though just not as safe. DoT crucible also favors Dot Builds a lot. You will need crucial gear though like Mark of Apostate. If you do witch hunter there is not much use in shield.

Great! Thank you. I did read that Caster builds need better gear. I did not know if it could be done apart from both many deaths and Soldier as a class.
