Should we get more loot in Multiplayer?

Preface: If my observations are true then we don’t get extra loot in multiplayer right now but only the loot of one person (divided between all the players if instanced). That assumption is what this thread is based upon.

Today was the first time I went into an online game with random players. We went BoC and SoT on Ultimate with a full group of 4 players. Throughout both of these runs I did not get one Legendary. Now, I’m not mad or anything because I expected that Kind of outcome because I already knew (or at least thought to know) how instanced loot works. Anyway, expecting the outcome and actually seeing the poor loot are two different things.
While I wasn’t disappointed really it made me think that I probably would not play with a random 4-men-group again. It’s a shame because the gameplay itself was fun and refreshing but on the loot on the other hand was hardly worth the time let alone the key I spent.

So that made me thinking: Should we get loot for each player in the game? - And I came up with a few points.

Contra:

  • If we got more loot in multiplayer organized 4-men-groups would be significantly more efficient in farming compared to solo-farming, especially in regard of MIs.

  • Also (semi-)organized groups would be more “key-efficient” as in one player spends a Skeleton Key and the group gets loot worth 4 keys.

  • Playing in groups is much easier even though monsters are buffed. Therefore you naturally should get more loot when playing alone.

    Pro:

  • Grim Dawn is not competetive; if grouped players receive more loot the gameplay of solo-players would not change in any way.

  • It may give people (like me) more incentive to play in multiplayer.

(basically the whole little story up there)

So what do you guys think? Am I missing any points?

Voted yes.

I’m not entirely familiar with how the loot system works, but I’m pretty sure that overall loot quantity scales up to some degree as playercount increases. However, it does not do so linearly, as you’ve observed.

I think it’d be nice if guaranteed ‘X’ sources dropped an ‘X’ for each player in the game. That means one-shot chests, Nemeses (with their shoulders), roguelike/deathroom chests, etc.

The game become to easy in team, so i voted no.

Strange. I was under impression that you do get more loot in multiplayer, or at the very least each character gets a share equal to single player loot.

The only things I see less in multiplayer are Crystals and Chthonic Sigils.

Voted nothing (for now).

I thought that every char has the same chances like in singleplayer game!?
Except iron, you get way more in MP-games.

I voted no…This is a single player game. Multiplayer and trade are tacked on, but the game itself is made and balanced for solo play. I got very tired of multiplayer getting undeserved bonuses in D3…we don’t need that here. You already clear faster in a group, so that and the companionship are the only bonuses multiplayer should ever have IMO.

The only thing that really drops in drop rate is MI items.

That is because MI drops are locked to being dropped from the enemy holding them. You do also loose a bit of the “held” loot, but this makes up an absolutely minor portion of loot that drops for you, like 10-20% tops. All other sources just drop a unique pile of loot for every player.

Well, for me the biggest turnoff would be the fear to trivialize the game by making loot potentially more accessable with that change. On the other hand giving each player loot worth of Singleplayer loot would not grant any kind of bonus (contrary to Diablo 3 for example where players even get bonus loot for playing in groups).
Only if you traded with an organized group you could speak of an advantage but trading is perfectly possible today; we have a bunch of threads in this forum only for trading. If I traded every dublicate Legendary against one I didn’t have then I probably would have every Legendary now but I chose not to do so and it would be the same with the singleplayerlike loot.

I am damn sure that you do not receive the same amount of loot in multiplayer compared to singleplayer let alone more loot. Maybe you get an equal amount of green items but definately not Legendaries. But perhaps a dev could enlighten us here.
