Skill granted by item greyed out in skill bar?

Got a shield which grants the skill ‘hungering maw’ but when I equip the shield and put ‘hungering maw’ in a slot on skill bar its greyed out and says requires an item? Am I supposed to bind to some piece of equipment I have??? and how do I do that?

I take it you are talking about Maw of the Damned or it’s mythical version?

First make sure you have enough Physique. If you switch around gear or respec the mastery bar it can happen that this prerequisite is no longer met, and the shield is no longer working although it is still in the slot.

Also make sure you equipped a melee weapon in your main hand, Hungering Maw doesn’t work if wielding a pistol or nothing at all.

Not sure about reviving such a old topic but my question is very close. I have a gutworm mark that should grant me ring of steel ( I can see it highlighted in the description) but I do not see the buff in my UI. Am I missing something?

Or maybe I am not understanding the UI and it adds the piercing damage to ring of steel if I have it already?
