Maybe a granted skill for a set, that grants you a dragon…That way it limits how OP you can get that dragon, with the set pieces.
I totally voted #3, because DRAGONS.
Not that I’d say no to summoning a bone golem, like Uro’s guard dude. That’d be nice too. Both would be even better. Basically any summon we already have, but with bones, would be good…As long as the creature has bones. Bone Rift Scourge would make no sense, for example.
A necromancer a master of the undead puts on wizard hat and summons in a dragon?
Maybe a bone wyrm would fit. It can pretty much be anything as long as it’s undead related or if they can fit it into GD lore. Eg dragons guard the gates to the other side etc
There are a LOT of good examples of Bone Dragons, Bone Wyrms, Bone Lizards… They’re pretty dang cool. Also, they often come with cool spectral blue flame breath.
As for lore…You could simply say that Dragons were wiped out at some point…Which would explain why only the most powerful Necromancers can do it, they can jsut say the longer something has been dead, the harder it is to raise. Which is why skeletons are easy, people die everywhere all the time. At best, maybe 50 years tops since someone died vaguely near where you’re standing in Cairn, I’d guess. Dragons tho…Could be a much longer time, depending on how Crate would write it.
As long as it’s undead related then I’m all for it. But just saying a necro should be able to summon a dragon seems silly to me. Kind of like asking for Necro to be able to summon a hippopotamus.
Honestly I would prefer if Crate just come up with something new such as TQ’s outsider. A dragron would more than likely have claw attacks, flame breath and perhaps a tail swipe. The Hellhound already has 2 of those attacks. It needs to have it’s own level of uniqueness.
I think a Bone Wyrm is unlikely, though it would be appreciated. I would be shocked, however, if the expansion wasn’t adding any way to summon a Bone Golem of some kind, like Uro’s Guard or the guys in the Undercity. Perhaps even a Moose-styling Transmuter, making it have some cold DPS and look like a Mini Moose.
And yeah, Dragon in general would be nonsense…But BONE Dragons are among the most badass things Necromancers ever summon, and it’s hard to argue with their coolness.
The only time I’ve ever summoned something that could compete in coolness is Pillars of Eternity, when I murdered Concelhaut, stole his skull from his corpse, and could summon him to beat up my enemies using his skull. That’s pretty badass as well, TBH. Perhaps we’ll get something LIKE that…We do have Salazar’s Soveirgn Blade, which has much the same feel with being able to summon Salazar’s Harbinger. Stealing your enemies power is pretty fun. Part of why I love Salazar’s whole shtick so much.
I’m on team bone dragon. Two of my most memorable battles were at the end of my old 1e AD&D campaign when we faced off against the skeletal dragon that used to be our kingdoms wizard. The second was the skeletal dragon I fought in Skyrim (because it reminded me of our game).
If there are going to be Undead Dragons, there better be living ones as well. And honestly, if there are going to be living dragons, they better be huge. And then the summoned dragon will appear lame.
My personal favorite type of summon would be a customizable undead Revenant. Equipping armor on my summons would be awesome.
Maybe I should take a break from farming the legendaries I want and play Age of Wonders 3 again…
…Or also the other games that are in my steam library “rotting” away without being played… Like Shantae: Half-Genie Hero… Or Brutal Legend… Or Tomb Raider…
