They are using a free font.
Otherwise, they would need to buy a font license for a lot of money.
Guess some fonts are copyrighted by the creator and a license is required to be purchased if you are going to profit by using a specific font. So, choices are very limited.
(Not sure whether that’s the final font. Could be just for the Alpha/Beta phases.)
Awesome shots plus update, getting dehydrated by salivation
And now, back to work…lol:D
as Assassin has said, fonts are very tricky to use, there aren’t that many totally free to use in anything fonts,. most are commercial licensed so you need to shell out for a huge amount of money to even use them, even many free fonts have a lot of limitations depending on the license they have, as some can’t be used for a commercial product
the subject of the font has come up many times, but unless Crate win the lottery or something or have even more sales that gives them huge amounts of money, then the font choice will be limited, remember their resources are finite,. and I think personally speaking the font is fine, but that is just me. but I dont think getting a new font at this stage would be worth the hassle, not unkless they make huge amounts of money,
but this subject does come up a lot, and usually ends up with the same been said, font choice is very limited
A better looking font adds little value to the game overall. Of course little details make the difference and the game does need a better font. Its not always about the money though, they can make their own font if they want to… its not that hard.
At this point of the developement though, i don’t think they need to deal with this.
Bah what’s in a font? Most probably the bottom of the list for me.
Rest looks fantastic, they have really poured their hearts and souls into it.
To be honest I barely notice the font after gaming for awhile, the numbers they speak to me , all I see is blonde, brunette, red head…
Did D2 very stylized font really add value? Did you notice it the hundredth time?
We all forget Crate is not Blizzsuit or Craptivision or Errode Anything, they have a very finite budget and I personally would prefer they spend more time and money developing than throw money into a font that will just blur into the code after awhile.
As long as I can read the font, it will work for me. I plan on keeping my eyes on the mobs and looking for loot!
Nice screens! Can’t wait to see it in action for myself
I actually like the font too. I think it fits Grim Dawn perfectly.
this game is and will be more then cool and amazing cant wait to play it,just hope we will not see hacks on the items from some players like in TQ.I want to ask too when we start to play the alpha will this alpha chars procesed or can the processed to original game when release??
I’m fine with the fonts as they are. Sometimes folks get too caught up in trying to use a font that’s fancy or “cool looking”. That’s all great and everything, but sometimes that comes at the expense of readability. I think the KISS (keep it simple stupid), or “less is more” philosophy, whichever way you want to look at it, applies here. Just use a nice simple font that’s easy to read. Then, of course, there’s the already touched upon issue of there being a limited selection of fonts that are free and not bogged down by licensing.
There are better fonts out there but they most likely are not worth the difference in price (free versus thousands of $). I personally do not care for the font as long as it is easily readable.
The screens look great, I so want to play this right now
One of this guys at GGG is cheating !
16K HP seems a lot compared to the other screenshots
The waiting is even harder now
GGG? You know this isn’t Path of Exile, right?
This is Grim Dawn developed by Crate Entertainment!
Oh god… I cannot wait for this game! It looks extremely epic. Im installing TitanQuest at the moment because I’m far too hyped for this game haha.
Does anyone know how big (file size//hours of gameplay) the alpha vs final game will be?
Not that it matters, just curious.
File size, no idea. I believe I read a comment from med a while ago where he said it is 2-3 hours of gameplay and about as far as to the Spartan warcamp in TQ. I think that probably makes it about 20% of the game.
EDIT: found the quote, but the Spartan camp is from another text and unrelated to the alpha, it was speaking of playtime varying a lot by player.
"The world redesign is one of the most obvious places where that has happened. In the map below, which only shows the first “act” you can see the green areas we intend to release for alpha are about 3x the volume of the original map from the first state of the game address.

It is clocking at around 2-3 hours for someone who knows the levels and plays relatively straight through, skipping all the side content. Doing that you wind up finishing around level 11-13. An average play-through for someone who didn’t know where they were going and explored a bit more would probably be 4-5 hours and reach level 13-16. To clear everything could probably take 6-8 hours, maybe more.

I’m starting to think we may be making Grim Dawn too big! At least, bigger than we had originally intended. Instead of 10-15 hours for final release, we may end up closer to 20+."
Given the last part, I stick to my 20% of the game for now
I think from one of the updates, the alpha should last 2 to 3 hours can’t remember if side quests are added into that, as for the game size in mb’s I don’t know,
Awesome pictures! I need to reinstall TQ while I wait and die over and over to a manticore or special tiger with ninja swords…
I love how dark and gritty the area is, but there’s still bursts of color. As a matter of preference though, pictures don’t do the game justice after watching that original Old Grove scenery video
Nice screens. We are getting close woohooo!!!
Wait, you mean the Alpha will be 2-3 hours or 4-5 hours for someone that doesn’t know his way in and out or are you talking about the full game? If the full game is 6-8 hours, that is too short I really hope it’s as long as Torchligh II being 20+ hours long the first time playing it…
