the alpha will be 2-3 (or 4-5 when you explore more), the full game will be more like 20, as the quoted text says
"[…]
I’m starting to think we may be making Grim Dawn too big! At least, bigger than we had originally intended. Instead of 10-15 hours for final release, we may end up closer to 20+."
Sounds lovely to me. I think the open spacing will really help any issues of being “too long”. That was my major gripe with TQ. I never thought I’d say this, but that was an ARPG I almost wished was shorter.
Just killed the alpha end-boss and my character has 7h 23m played. I didn’t do much replaying of areas but tried to go through a lot of the side content and finish every quest. There are also two big side dungeons I never went through, so that seems pretty good. Finished at level 19.
The 2-3h estimate is for someone who is just playing straight through and doing most of the main quests. You can skip all the quests though if you want and just rush the boss, so I mean, it is probably possible to finish it much faster if that was your goal. Although, you’d probably end up dying a lot as a result of being too low level in higher level areas.
That’s a relief. I was worry if it will end up being short but thank goodness it isn’t, I always thought the 20 hr mark is a perfect length for these type of games, anyways I feel better now.
Also one question, does Crate have any plans to adding Steam Workshop for this game in the near future after it’s release? Not a big deal or anything but it be kind of cool if they added just like Torchligh II has especially for that SynergieMod, makes me wonder what the mods will able to do with this game.
That will be MORE than enough for me in alpha. Hell I’d say roughly 65% of my time in TQ was spent in starting Greece rolling piles of alts, which means this is a very exciting amount of content to hear about for me.
Sounds awesome and can’t wait to check the alpha out.
Two questions:
1: NDA? This hasn’t been answered 100% as to whether or not GD will have one.
2: Will their be a “Time Played” feature on a created character? Just a bit curious, I don’t really care if this is in or not but I’m wondering based on “my character has 7h 23m played”.
I too am amazed by the length of the alpha. 7+ hours with 2 skipped dungeons … I expected about half this length.
Being the type of person who refuses to proceed further before having explored every inch of an area, this is music to my ears.
Really looking forward to the alpha. As for now I’m trying to convince some of my friends to buy GD.

well if you take a look at the state of the game address 2, it does compare the original lever areas to the new redesigned areas, and the new areas are 3x the size of the original, but the game length for the alpha sounds awesome, plus 2 side dungeons too, those should be good to explore, so the final game does sound like it will be pretty big
I know that Crate were planning on a total game size of Greece compared to TQ, but I also had a feeling since the new devs got added, and the state of the game address 2, that the game has grown in size, I think Crate are gunning for a full blown game now, a full blown release with a lot of content, lets not forget that there will still be a lot of DLC to follow, but I think the plan was to release quite a few of them, so the total game size with all the DLC installed I think will be a massive game, with a lot of combos in classes, and probably X amoount of 2 classes on the released 5 (3 classes will be available in alpha)
so really, I’m utter amazed at the progress of this game, and the wait is just killing me, its close, so close I can almost smell it
