Some questions about devotion

Hey guys,

so a guy I play with decided he wanted to re-roll a new character and asked me if I wanted to do the same so our characters would progress together. I decided to roll an albrecht’s aether ray arcanist/demolitionist focusing on fire and aether damage.

I was looking at the third tier constellations and apart from light empyrion none of them really seem to fit what I want to do with the build. I mean sure there is spear of heavens which gives a boost to aether damage but I feel it is a bit of a waste and inefficient as I am not really going to be using lightning at all as one of my other toons is very lightning heavy. Ulzuin’s torch is another option for the fire damage but not sure which damage type the aether ray would benefit from most?

My question is how necessary is it to aim for a third tier constellation? I know they have some powerful effects but they really take a lot of focus on particular constellation options. How bad would a build without third tier constellations be? I usually try to do my devotions to match what I am going to face in end game and so I usually focus more defensive than offensive.

Well, it’s not absolutely needed to get T3 constellation abilities, depending on your build (if you intended on a procc-build that throws constellation proccs into their faces it’s different, of course).

You could always go for defensive constellations and then go for more offensive gearing/skill choices.

As long as you can manage the content and - most importantly - enjoy playing that character, all is fine.

After all, there is no real price for defeating a nemesis in 10s instead of 15s or whatever.

And of course, you can always respec your constellations if it feels lackluster.

You really don’t need a third tier for some builds. For AAR, generally the best use is Imp, simply because it fits the damage types and it has no cooldown, so you end up spamming it a LOT if you link it to your AAR. It’s also easy to make that the first thing you get, and get it fully leveled quicker.
