[Sorcerer] Aetherlord, Aether Ray/Wrath of Agrivix Build [V1.0.0.6 HC]

“Aetherlords, Nobles who master in aether magics. They are possesed by aetherial spirits, these spirits enhance the power of the one they possesse, allow them to channel high concentration of aether ray that disintegrates everything it touches. Aetherlords are protected by aetherial spirits, occasionally a blast of waves are released to repel enemy who dare enough to come nearby. They are in search of secret of the aether power for unlimited, the power of which could leave them in reckless state.”

No… no… no. Above is just my imagination, based on Aetherlord’s Signet favor text. :stuck_out_tongue:
I just want to make another Aether Ray sorcerer again, last one I did, it was in early access when level cap was 50/60.

This build is simple, Aether Ray for single target and Flash Freeze + Wrath of Agrivix for AoE, the lefts are debuff. I decide to no pick up Devastation though, it don’t do much for little points investment and I don’t want to push too much keys. I recommended who want to try this build to have at least 3 pieces Iskandra’s Unity for Physical resistance, Codex of Lies and Wrath of the Ascendant or Warpfire.

PLAYSTYLE/FIGHT SEQUENCE

Very easy step here. First, use Chaos Strike to close to gap, initiate with Flash Freeze combo with Wrath of Agrivix, throw out Flashbang then use Aether Ray to clear out the room, throw out BWC when you want to reduce enemy’s physical resistance.

Great build! AAR warlock was my very first build and I always liked casters. How does this compare with the new Agrivix set?

This build i great! I have one question about the skills:
why do you not max out the damage skills? Is it because you have so many +skills in Arcanist that you want to avoid diminishing returns?

with gear, full build its beyond maxed out.

I haven’t tried Agrivix set yet, missing the shard and shoulders, don’t feel like farming right now. It will works with this build definitely and it should be even more offensively stronger than Iskandra’s Unity set, I’ll compare the sets once I got full Agrivix set.

My Aether Ray max at 26 with gears, % Crit damage from disintegrate don’t scale well in ultimate rank, vitallity damage from it is minor damage for this build.

Flash Freeze is mainly for debuff at level 12 is enough and the range of it scales horribly in ultimate rank.

Callidor’s Tempest modifier, Inferno is terrible a modifier, the burn damage is too low, armor reduction does nothing for the build.

Another reason I left skill modifiers(Inferno/Disintegrate/Absolute Zero) at rank 1 is because they mostly are % damage which additively stack with % damage from items, devotion and spirit, so they don’t increase much damage as they looks and they also only modify certain skills. So spending points where else(for global buffs/debuffs) is much better than increase little damage of specific skills.

any tips on leveling an arcanist on hc?

i have a summner lvl 85 and played several characters but I cant level arcanist

so fragile and no energy. my last died at 25 at a hero boss in arkovian undercity

I wish there were leveling uniques like in Path of exile  Any tips for what should i craft around lvl 25-30 ? I think ill use components early.

Thank you very much! Still a bit new to this game and I find it counter intuitive to not max skill modifiers of a main damage skill (kind of like not maxing out all synergies in diablo 2), your explanations really helped

What I usually do when leveling with Arcanist, I tend to put a few points in leveling skills (typically Replicating Missile) and over leveling mastery bar.
So if I’m level 20, I’ll be at 32-40 in mastery bar (I usually hit 50 in Arcanist around level 30-35). This increases HP, energy, HP/energy regen and attribute points significantly early on, so you have a better survivability than spending point for skills, spending points for spells too much can be bad, as it increases your energy cost. Mental Alacrity is very important for caster builds, put a few points in there can reduces a lot of energy cost. Other than that I tend to look for items with energy regen, Flat HP and Physique. I also put most if not all of my attribute points in physique.

Mirror of Ereoctes is another important skill for your survivability, always put at least 1 point in it as soon is it’s available for you, use it wisely can gets you out of any nasty situations. If that’s not enough try Turtle constellation from Devotion, Turtle Shell is another great defensive skill.

It depends on build to build and what you’re trying to achieve with your character. Maxing modifiers can be beneficial to some but might not be for some cases.

Hi, is the amulet of agrivix a better option instead of iskandra ?

Hey Zars,

I managed to hit 47 on hardcore.
Got a questions about auras.

Any idea why I lose three of them after a while? prolly i dont understand the mechanics

Vindictive Flame
Flame Touched
Maiven SoP (Wayward soul is attached to this).

While the last procs some defensive skill, i dont get it about the others 2. There is no way i can press the button cause they are all on the same one (and i switch).

regards

You lose auras( skills that reserve and cost active energy ) when you run out of energy

For those of you wondering how the build holds up with the agrivix set, I did pretty much the same build on my CT sorc which is running the set with a few different devotions. The paper DPS is about the same but CT and OFF (If you use warpfire) hit much harder, plus you get 2 more relevant procs in the wisps from the agrivix set and devastation from outcast’s secret. I’m also using anathema on medal but for HC, MoD is probably better. You do lose out on ~14% phys res depending on your rolls and +2 to arcanist which is relevant so it’s not exactly a straight upgrade.

I also tested just the shard of agrivix on a iskandra’s ARR build nearly identical to this one, and it just out performs the iskandra amulet with better stats, AoE proc, and fire to aether conversion. Still jungling between codex of lies and iskandra’s text but the ammy upgrade is definitely worthwhile imo.

Hey,

Was this build buffed or nerfed in 1.0.7? (devotions, skills, items)

Regards

Nothing really changed much, the only nerf is %fire resistance reduction from Olexra’s Flash Freeze got nerf, but Wrath of Agrivix got buffed and indirect buff for any aether build, the lower of monster aether resistance, I’d say it got slightly buffed.

PS. If you use Wrapfire, it got nerfed.

Hi there and thanks for the nice build !

I have some questions : even if I don’t have all the gear yet (and im at Act1 Ulti right now), I’m wondering why is The Peerless Eye of Beronath
such a top amulet ? (even for many builds) : it mays give nice critic damage (and pretty nice O.A), I’m still wondering if it’s mainly for it’s granted skill : “eyes of the beronath”, -100 to target O.A. But In your fight sequence, u don’t talk about using that skill but “BWM” instead : is it not preferable to use “Eyes of Beronath” debuff instead of BWM ? If I’m not wrong they both do the same and the burn damage is insignifiant not ? Then, u can grab 2 more skills points from BWM.
I’ve found this amu that I’m not using but it gives me much higher damage (on the sheet…I know i don’t have to trust it, I’m sticking to The Peerless) :
-Empowered Essence of Beronath :
22 Elemental Damage / +78% Ele Damage /+10 Attack Speed / + 10%Casting Speed / +2% Chaos Resist…lol /+12% Ele Resist /+24% Damage reflected (to work with Mirror ?) /+1 to @ sk. No skillls granted.
What do u think of that ? Too much lacking of critic and A.O ?

What about “Chaos strike” ? I’ve just discovered it, it’s kinda the “Shadow Strike” of the poor  (I have 2 characters, this one and Blademaster so it’s not that much a big change, It’s kinda a Magical strike now ^^).
Why is this that good ? Mainly to teleport to close to close to cast all the rest ? Isn’t that a bit deadly vs heroes , boss and nemesis ? (as u can’t really freeze and stun most of them) and when you’re “Mirror” runs out, u"r like “raaaah kill beam, kill bil…beam !” Otherwise, it’s still nice because I loved this 1 point skill I invested into “Blitz Strike” (I’ve even removed the modifier, but I’m not sure I’ve done good though) for my blademaster, kinda useless in fight but this + Shadow Strike and a lot of Walk speed : I’m very fast rushing through maps in search for nemesis and else; so I was wondering if I won’t get bored beeing that slow with this sorc, to do some speed runs but now yes, I can dash yay ! :stuck_out_tongue:
And a last thing about "Chaos Strike ": wouldn’t it fits nicely with a “tainted” build ? And a chaos Vita or aether/vita gear/skill set up ? Because Its damage dealt onto an Aether/fire build is insignifiant : only Chaos and Vita (in this we didn’t invested enough Sk points to make it very efficient) and slow cooldown.

For that, I’ve found this nice sword : “Fang-of-Ch’thon”. (I can’t post links yet :furious: , at 1 post to be able to…) : basically it gives "+40-74 Chaos dmg / very fast / +120% Vita damage/Chaos/Vita Decay) ,10% attack dmg converted to health other goodies and a skill that lower vita/chaos resist , flat chaos damage and 33% attack damage converted to health…
I don’t know at all about Chaos/Vita items but this seems to be a nice weapon, With other nice Chaos gear i’m wondering if it would be way much better than an aether/fire set up. I would try to make a tainted build later, but i’m not enough experienced for that yet even if it’s possible to spend more points into demo than arcanist to grab nice chaos/fire damage (and some vita in arca).

But at the moment, i’m fine with your build, i didn’t know the “callidor’s tempest” skill, I was suspicious about its damage but when you add Main Hand Damage + Fire + Aether + modifier one = u reach easily 10k without all skills/gear.

Another little question : do you know if Mirror of Erreoctes Reflectives damage boost vindict flames and other retalation skills ? I guess not…

And to finish, Why is investing a little point into devastation (got it level 8 with +sk) so bad ? U say it brings nothing for the few damages; maybe it’s because i’m early ulti but It’s kinda cool to agro + freeze monsters under devastion and when I come close to close with “Chaos Strike”, if I find myself too long too kill even after the sequence Chaos Strike->freeze->Callidor->FB->(Nullification + BWM/Gaze of Beronath if big boss) -> aether : im glad to have devastation to clear trashes while my CD are active and no more miror/ long time to kill with ray (got it level 26 already). But for now, in act1 , devastation still make huge damage. And vs static/tanky monsters like Aether Obelisk/Terraformer", u can deal with other monsters around or step back while it got hurts.

Btw, the sequence can be so long that I may spend more time to cast stuff than using ray ^^

Sorry for my big text and my english, if someone can help me I would be very grateful, As I don’t handle all the game mechanic yet.
(And I’ve been very surprised to learn in your post that +“x”% to a damage type isn’t that great, it’s better to grab some Flat damage and boosting other skills, investing only 1 point into +“x”% to that elements ?with +sk from gear is enough ? It’s so much different than “Laser And Explosion”'s build of OverclockedWolf…)

Wrath of Agrivix, huh. And I was thinking that my idea of using it to complement AAR was novel. Oh well :undecided:

I started building this last night and am currently level 21. Is this build still viable? I just passed the warden and it was fairly easy. Just wanted to check.

Thanks

Looks like a great build that i want to try, 2 quick questions tho:

 1. Which AAR-build would be stronger end game you think, this one or chaos/warlock?
 2. Why do you over prioritize the Manticore over Eldritch, wouldn’t the -fire res be better?

Been following this guide to the T, currently lvl 70 and fort ikon in elite, and i absolutely melt everything. Build is more than viable, it is extremely lethal.

 1. both have pros and cons, but i feel aether has better synergies and gear available, so my preference is towards aether.
 2. read why here, http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32241

EDIT: So I stuck it out, and managed to find some decent gear and get a few more devotions, and I can hold my own (only in elite difficulty atm however), but I’ve run into a big problem:

Following your devotion route, when I got to my first pt into Manticore, I realized that I was at 45 pts, and completing manticore would cap me at 50 pts, with no way to get 3 pts into behemoth and 2 into owl.

I only have one pt left in crossroads (Order).

I noticed one of your steps says “remove spider crossroads”. Did you also mean remove the spider constellation as well? That’s the only thing I can see that would give me the final 5 pts to finish the route.
