Spices and Medicinal Roots... are they supposed to be this rare?

First map was a medium Alpine Highlands, uncovered about half of it, not a single Medicinal Root node. Second map I have found 5 total. And I’ve never seen any way to get spices other than the trader… is this the case? Or is it maybe on a different map biome?

I’ve seen Medicinal Roots once.

I’ve never even seen Spices and I keep forgetting they exist.

So, my guess is yes. It checks out, you get your spices via the silk trade.

Spices are only available by trading for them.

Fair enough. But are Medicinal Roots supposed to be as insanely rare as they are? Medium size map and I have none visible after clearing a bit over half the map and a second map I found only 5. On my 3rd map and don’t see any yet. It’s not like you would have a lot of them gathered if it’s a single node or two here and there. If you had more locations per map it’s not like you’d get a lot, because it would be tough to have a gatherer at every location.

Honestly, I like the fact that on some maps you dont get everything you need, this encourages trade. However I hope that the traders get a bit more diverse as updates arrive. Presently we get the same traders arriving every year at the same time. Ok its good that they dont always have what you want, but I would prever a little more diversity. (Not always arriving as I am being raided in the spring would also be a bonus ;))

Upgrading the trading post will bring other new traders to your town with new goods to sell.

I didn’t realize medicinal roots were in the game until I played a lowland lakes map. Never saw willow until that map either.

I’ve found plenty of willow, although it did take a little searching on one map to find more than the one node. It’s usually found around the lakes, so yeah lowland lakes map is going to have a bunch where as a map with little water is going to be much harder.

Medicinal roots pop up around high-moisture spots on the map. I’ve found two so far once I knew what I was looking for. They look a bit like swamps

Pretty sure I found 2 randomly nowhere near water, but I’ll load that map up again to check later.

The two I found weren’t near water either, but if you press “I” to bring up the water overlay I bet you’ll see that they are in high-moisture locations (the aforementioned swampy bits)

Root and willow only spawn in lowland lakes biome I think? Def haven’t seen any in alpine and arid.

Not accurate. Both have spawned in Alpine Valley for me. Willow on every map and Root on two of the four maps. Granted Root is very rare and I didn’t completely uncover the full map so might have been on all four but with only a few nodes. Willow is common enough around most lakes.

Have not tried Arid yet.

I only saw willow once on Arid Highlands, so they do spawn and seem to have the same high water requirement as roots, so in Swamps or next to Water.

Willow is a bit more common in Alpine Highlands due to more Lakes and Swamps there but still not common.

Try this seed: 369369369AB - Lowland Lakes, Medium. This seed abound in resources. All of them.
Though I am not able to create Spice but as Moderator says, from a Trader.
Let me know how you like the seed :sunglasses:

Idyllic Valley spawns Root, but not always.

Alpine valley has areas that look like marsh, willow and medicinal roots can and will spawn here. Arid highlands has practically zero chance of these and herbs spawning - maybe it’s possible, but extremely rare.

Once you get used to relying on the traders it’s not really that bad. For things like herbs that do spoil over time, you can just keep them “in stock” at the trader instead of transferring to storage, and that stops them from degrading. Then you can release to storage as needed.
