Spicing up enemy DOT deaths

edit 02: kind of curious about just giving them a on death sound. if it would be possible to attach it to a empty skill that the enemy uses on death. so each enemy could have their own distinct sounds. or somehow attach it to the DOT’s themselves as a general one fits all thing

edit 01: possibly all they might really need is their own sound. since they all tick at once,i believe, possibly sounds that complement each other or interact pleasantly

i’m totally loving DOT builds. never could figure out a proper kiting build. it was usually just let something else do the fighting. now it’s hit and run. just have to occasionally refresh the timers as i watch their hit-bar shrink. the deaths feel anti-climatic though. it would be nice if they had a special animation when they fell to DOT damage. maybe even just a particle effect related to what type of DOT or something, and a sound to go with it

i liked Borderlands DOT deaths. for fire they would burn to ash. acid would dissolve them. it was so awesome. and totally skipped for the sequels. Grim Dawn appears to already have the stuff built in for that too. would just trigger during the death animation instead of when the corpse faded. add in a sound related to the DOT type that killed it. like the crackling of burning wood for fire, dripping for bleed damage, etc. even just a appropriately colored nova burst like some enemies do on occasion when they die with the appropriate sound would help immensely with making these builds much more enjoyable

possibly with a short cool down to keep it from always playing instead of the regular ones. say .5 second cool down every time the enemy is hit by anything else

don’t know if it’s as simple to implement as it sounds, but the best option might be playing the normal fx of something that results in a killing blow slightly louder, slower, or in a different tone. to somehow differentiate it from the normal stuff. such as shifting the sound fx for Burn dots slightly down the spectrum or playing it back at 3/4s speed

this could be applied globally. and sounds like less work then all the other stuff i listed above. and would likely be the least noticeable change possible. while having the a high level of impact on the player

edit:
of course that would mean giving them a sound. most the DOTs don’t seem to have one. i could have sworn there was one that did. Pox or something. that one was very satisfying to kill with. these not so much. except for the just watching as their HP melts though. that is really nice
