Spreadsheet for Offensive ability vs Defensive Ability, as well as crit damage returns

Hi,

EDIT: Something is wrong with this. I checked all formula’s they should be as in the game guide, but the chances to hit doesn’t match what i should be seeing, when i calculate it using values from monster database grimtools, so either something is wrong here, or with that database, or maybe the formula changed in forgotten gods and they didn’t update it.

I created a spreadsheet for estimating the value of OA and Crit damage, from a crit build perspective. It is primarily a theorycrafting tool.

To view it you can find it here:
Spreadsheet Google docs

However, since it messes up the sizing here is a download link for the original file where the crit stat calculator is also able to be used:

Introduction:

In order for things to make sense i should give a quick introduction of how crits are rolled Grim dawn according to information from the official game guide. In grim dawn the crit chance depends on your Offensive ability(OA) vs your targets Defensive Ability(DA). Comparing these two values gives a single number called PTH(short for “Probability To Hit”). This PTH translates directly into your crit chance.

Critical strikes are a bit convoluted, and depending on how large your PTH you have a chance to roll even bigger crits, while still retaining the chance to roll lesser crits. Crits can roll damage multiplier values of 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 before considering crit damage. There is one table with these values if you wondered, but in general just use the “Crit % total”.

TLDR:

To use the tables, first compare your OA to target DA in order to find a PTH value using the upper table, then use the crit damage table to see what critical strike chance as well as what damage increase at varying levels of Crit Damage it will yield.

To find a target’s DA:

To find a target’s DA you can follow the instructions under the crit damage calculator inside the spreadsheet.
EDIT: There is also a monster database on grimtools - you can see their values there. https://www.grimtools.com/monsterdb/

Note:

The table is meant for crit builds, so the damage values will be inaccurate for PTH below 70 where your hits actually start doing less damage which i have not accounted for. Maybe i should expand it later.

Also note that the calculations are based on two assumptions i have not been able to validate yet since i for reasons won’t open the game until the expansion arrives, and have had to estimate from searching the forum for information.

  1. Critical damage % adds flat value to each treshhold, so if i have 50% crit damage it will turn a 1.1 crit into a 1.6 crit and a 1.4 crit into a 1.9 crit.
  2. When dealing with PTH values above the final treshhold, it will simply keep adding points to the chance to get a max tier crit.

If anyone knows whether those assumptions are correct or flawed i would love to know, so please leave a message so i can correct the table.

Man I wonder how this got buried! If those figures are reasonably close then this should be stickied! I noticed that I had miscalculated the crit multi while trying to do some damage calculations here: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63582

When I get far enough in the game I will try to start figuring out the OA and DA values of bosses and comparing them to your spreadsheet

+1 for sticky. This is really useful, great job you did

Updated the layout a little… hopefully i didn’t go overboard with those colors.

This chart is very useful, thanks for putting it together.

Thought it might be time for this to rise once again, in case someone wanna theorycraft some for expansion.

Such much theorycraft going on, but so few got a clue on the actual impact of the numbers.
